Guest goes all in for Congress

Rankin-Madison District Attorney Michael Guest announced today in a packed Rankin County courtroom that he is running for Congress.  The video is posted below as well as a campaign statement.

On Thursday, January 18, Michael Guest, the District Attorney for Madison and Rankin Counties, held an announcement event in Brandon for his campaign for the U.S. Congress in Mississippi’s Third Congressional District.

Michael Guest is a lifelong conservative Republican who believes in limited government, traditional Mississippi values, free market economic principles of lower taxes and fewer regulations, protecting the right to life of the unborn, a strong national defense with full support of our men and women in the military, and keeping our 2nd Amendment gun rights and the other individual rights and liberties guaranteed to us by our Constitution.

At the event, Michael Guest stated, “For the last 22 years, I have fought to protect the people of Mississippi by dedicating my life to help keep our communities safe, and to see that they remain great places to live, worship and raise a family. As District Attorney for the people of Madison and Rankin Counties, I have worked with our men and women of law enforcement and our judicial officials to protect our citizens from those who would prey upon others. I have worked to rid our streets of those who sell drugs to our children, and to see that violent offenders are held responsible for their actions.”

Since 2008, as District Attorney, Michael Guest and his office prosecuted 20,000 criminals, supported law enforcement agencies by providing them with more than $20 million dollars in money recovered from drug dealers, and successfully recovering more than $3.5 million dollars in the bad check unit to help local merchants and businesses.

“I’m asking for everyone’s vote because we need a strong, conservative Congressman to represent Mississippi who has a proven record of fighting for what’s right,” said Michael Guest. “Just like I’ve fought for you by prosecuting criminals in the courtroom and putting them in jail, I’m asking you to send me to Congress to fight for you and our state.”

Prior to becoming District Attorney in 2008, Michael Guest served 12 years as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting hundreds of cases and obtaining guilty verdicts against criminals charged with murder, manslaughter, armed robbery, sexual battery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, house burglary, and drug sales.

“I pledge to you that if you send me to Congress, I will work every day to represent our interests and to fight against those who would erode our freedoms. I will fight to see that we remain the nation that Ronald Reagan referred to as a shining city on a hill, and that we will forever be one nation under God.”

Michael Guest has worked closely with the law enforcement community training state and local law enforcement officers. He served as an instructor for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy, the Mississippi State Highway Patrol, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

District Attorney Guest serves as President of the Foundation for Rankin County Public Schools and serves on the Boards of the State and Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers. As a member of the Brandon Baptist Church, Guest serves as a Sunday school teacher and as a deacon. Michael Guest is a Rankin County resident and a graduate of Brandon High School. He received a degree in accounting from Mississippi State University and his law degree from The University of Mississippi. Guest is also a member of the Rankin County Bar Association and the Mississippi Bar Association. He is married to the former Haley Kennedy and they have two sons, Kennedy and Patton. Guest would make a better AG. The Congressional responsibilities can wear a person out with traveling, stress, etc.
Good luck, Guest! Make MS proud!

Game over folks! No one has ever had this much support. WOW!

That is a BIG crowd. Very impressive kickoff, Michael!

If everyone stationed behind Mike in this video voted at least once in the upcoming election, he would have a sizable majority and a clear path to victory. Great job, Michael, and also, your wife is a hottie.

12:42 = Michael Guest. Nice try.

No doubt about it, Guest is the establishment candidate. He'll be no different than the other MSGOP RINOs.

Game over???? Get over your Rankin County is all attitude. Lots of territory to cover between now and June. Guest will do good, but he does have a lot of issues to have to confront before it was over.

BTW, didn't see his Madison County Engineer buddy in the crowd; did he show up. And a couple of other previous supporters/contributors - guess they couldn't make it because they are in the big house for their contributions to other causes.

I am a NE Jackson resident, and I am a fan of Michael Guest. While I am sure he would be good at anything he does, I think his biggest weakness in this race is that he is so good as DA. I think a lot of people living in Rankin/Madison will want to keep him doing what he is already doing so well, which is protecting them. And as a Jacksonian, I am very grateful for his efforts in doing Robert Shuler Smith's dirty work for him. That is the only reason I would consider voting for someone else.

HAte to lose him as a DA, but Michael will do a great jon in Congress!

Its a decent crowd - but not the overwhelming size that the couple of campaign flunkies above are touting - a hundred maybe, but take out family, staff (campaign and DA) and press and you've got sixty or seventy folks. Not bad, but its going to take a bunch more than that. But I do give Josh a thumbs up for trying to cover the social media talk and start up the "largest crowd ever". Following in the Donald's footsteps.

Like Harper before him he'll do everything he can to avoid going into details on the stump about the illegal aliens pouring over our border in order to keep the Sanderson campaign contribution gravy train rolling.

OMG that is a HUGE crowd. The biggest kickoff crowd these parts have probably EVER seen. SRO city folks, SRO CITY!!!!

1:51. more like 350. His wife Kids sister and family were about 13. Most of his staff were upstairs. You got the jelly-belly? This was an incredible turn out.

Surprised to hear him continue his 'bragging' about all the drug money the county has taken in - obviously oblivious to the conservative and libertarian folks that abound throughout the district who have a problem with civil asset forfeiture issues.

Not a problem with taking drugs and drug dealers off the streets (highways) but the wild wild west way of handling many of these cases has gotten out of hand. Don't drive through the county with cash in your vehicle, particularly if you have an out of state (or county) tag. You might not be put in jail, but your car and the cash will be gone.

But hey - he's collected $20 million for Rankin County that way. And to them, that's a good thing, regardless of the rightness of the issue.

Lol He's a good DA because he gives people so much time, huh?

Guest will never get my vote, for anything. Don't know anything about the other two candidates but guess I need to start looking at them.

2:09, you aren't Sean Spicer from DT's press office are you? Your estimating ability needs to be honed a little before you quit your day job.

Mary Hawkins won’t support Guest because he won’t agree to be her puppet like Trey Baxter.

JOSH HARKINS FOR CONGRESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Either a poll or his campaign consultant told him to cut the sideburns. Now that they're gone I can vote for him. Thank you SO much.

As political player, one has to admire how Guest has played the game. He has lined up all the major players, the main 4 being the Rankin county political machine, the courthouse crowd in Madison and Rankin, Harper's network and fundraising and Phil and Tate are from Rankin and they are on board. This is about as big a home run in the political world a candidate can get in this race. And the speed at which this was thrown together is incredible. It's all about addition and Guest's numbers all add up.

Anonymous said...

Phil and Tate are on board? Damn, can I come over and join in with whatever it is that you are drinking? Tate ain't about to get into this race, he has his own to run next year. He's much smarter than what you are suggesting. And there is a lot of Harper's network that isn't lined up behind Guest - maybe SOME of his staff, and his daughter working for the campaign raising funds (convenient isn't it). If you are amazed at the "speed" in which he has thrown this together, you are either very naive, or else in the middle of it and playing dumb. Harper cut this deal with Guest weeks ago so Guest could start making calls before anyone had an idea it was happening, including Harper staff. Was supposed to still be a secret but no way to keep something like this under wraps.

Home runs early in a ball game are always good, but its the score at the end that matters. Got to keep on scoring for several weeks to come now that there are other teams on the field to throw the pitches.

A little about drug seizure money. If you are legit and have over $10K in cash on you, you will have the proper documentation. Why? Because that's what responsible business people do. So, if you have the proper paperwork your money doesn't get seized. Pretty simple.

So let me get this straight. Guest opens a debt collection company who gets referred collection accounts from a third party. Tries to do what is in his contract with the third party to do "collect a debt" that THEY, NOT GUEST, say you owe and it's Guest's fault....

Anonymous said...

Who is Josh Harkins?

Anonymous said...

Harkins is a lightweight lapdog in the legislature. Phil’s lapdog.

Anonymous said...

I thought Mike already announced? I seen it on the T.V.

Anonymous said...

8:15. I guess you are last to know. Tate's people are involved in Guest campaign. Seriously, where do you no-nothing political morons come from. Stop commenting about politics and go back playing video games or whatever you do. Maybe you heard it from " the street!" Lol

3:52 he sold his soul to Mother Mary in 2007 in order to get elected DA in the first place...

@10:52 is the same boob who kept trolling on JJ that John Kasich was going to win the Mississippi primary and eventually the GOP nomination for POTUS.

"Mary Hawkins won’t support Guest because he won’t agree to be her puppet like Trey Baxter."

Dayum, Rudy. I thought you were on a cruise.

On another note: Do I see some of the 'Snake Grabbers'? Couldn't he send somebody out to the street to round up at least one black guy to stand in the background?

Wasn't Guess making phone calls on the Saturday before the Monday Harper announced that he would not run again?

8:35
So, let me get this straight. Guest (Mad/Rank DA) opens a collection agency that is collecting so-called "debts" for Police departments around the state. "Debts", usually called "fines", from 20-25 years ago, that they claim weren't paid. In his collection letters, he threatens to have your license pulled and a warrant for your arrest issued. None of which happens, since it is NOT LEGAL. But, you are good with that, and really really believe that he'll be up there in D.C. looking out for all you hard-working Mississippians?
8:28 (same as 8:35) - it's not the government's damn business how much money I want to carry around, and I reject your "paper's please" acceptance of the totalitarian way that Law Enforcement enriches itself.
Having said that, Guest is obviously trying to get ahead of legitimate criticism of his actions and is paying a troll to do so.
Wouldn't vote for that bottom-feeder if he was the only ho at the prom. He is bought and paid for.

I am interested in finding out the real reason Harper is stepping down. Is he going after Thad's job? All this is very strange...someone is hiding the truth !!!!!!!!!!

They all remind me of snake oil salesmen. The days of respecting your lawyer, doctor, banker, preacher and legislators are long gone. The world is in a sad situation and I see no way to return to the good old days.

Boss HOGG looks pretty good at this time !!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

1017...dont be angry. Your rant offers no real argument. Whether you like it or not the law is the law. Dont like it work to get the law changed. As far as the debt collection, pay the bills you owe.

Anonymous said...

1012..um debt collections is a business. His is like any other. Your debt is with someone else who sold it to the "collector"; still unable to see how it's Guests fault.

Anonymous said...

Tate's people are not involved. Phil's people are - Josh and Quinton are deeply involved!

Anonymous said...

Attn 12:18 PM I am one who rec'd one of the threatening letters years ago for a traffic ticket that I like many others had paid. How was my debt with someone else when I had no debt. This was an extortion scheme which I turned in to the Atty. Gen. who chose to ignore.

Anonymous said...

12:18 & 12:27 = paid troll. Same one as 8:28 & 8:35.
Ticket was paid. Period.
Once again, you have no problem with an elected official using his name to scam people. Yes, this is a scam. Guilty until proven innocent. No proof after 25 years? Mo' money for the Guest family. He'll fit right in in D.C.
How much is Guest paying you?

Anonymous said...

Not to hijack the thread but our AG ignores Plenty of corruption issues from Rankin county officials!

Anonymous said...

The DA also ignores Madison County crooks like HCB who ran a pyramid scheme for over 40 years until he couldn't pay the suckers anymore. He may have gotten away with it because he executed a promissory note to pay everyone over a 7 year period. I'm glad he is trying to pay the suckers back...the only reason he wants to make amends is to stay out of prison. What a POS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

246...ok I'll bite..what corruption did he overlook in particular?

Anonymous said...

Rankin county Sheriff

Anonymous said...

Why Harper quit is fairly irrelevant at this point. But, he damned sure won't get Thad's job. That one goes to Mitch Tyner.

Anonymous said...

There are a boat load of Hatch Act violations in that courtroom press conference picture.

otisfyfe said...

The Hatch Act applies to federal employees or federally funded state or county employees. Guest is neither, nor is there any use of a federal building to intimidate or coerce employees to vote or refrain from voting for a particular candidate or party.

Michael had better hire at least one African American before it gets out that he only employs Caucasians in his office.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
