Let the protests begin

Mississippi Democrats are none too happy that President Trump is visiting Jackson this weekend to speak at the opening of the Civil Rights Museum.  This letter calling for a boycott of the ceremonies is one example.

Who gives a $#!# what the Democrats think... Trump was awarded the Ellis Island award in 1986 along with rosa parks and Muhammed Ali for his work with inner city youth. Also, he was recognized by Jessie Jackson for his advanced positions of minorities and the large salary they earned with his company. He is endorsed by many in the King family and the Evers family. Black population loved him until he runs as a republican. Don't forget it was the Democrats that opposed James meredith at Ole Miss. I'm 62 years old and I remember this well. Trump has not made race an issue unlike his opponents and media has. He has never opposed gay marriage either but he gets slammed by that community as well. Although hillary and Obama voted against gay marriage multiple times and voted to build a wall also.

Embarrassing, disrespectful, ridiculously presumptuous, and the opposite of what the Hospitality State is supposed to be.

Once he finds out that the protesters can't be shielded from the view of the camera and that he can't control the crowd, he's going to bail on Philly.

Bend the knee, Ms. Amos. The leader of the free world is coming to Jackson.

The problem for Trump is that the overwhelming number of tickets distribed went to folks who really don't like him. You can bet he will be heckled if he speaks. Then there is the issue of protesters outside the venue and lining High St. He is going to have a hard time sneaking in and hiding out.

Shame on Ms Amos. The President of the United States coming to the museum will shed a world wide light on the museum. Otherwise most people even in MS would have never heard of it. Now the entire country will see it. They will also see the ignorance and disrespect of the Democratic Party. What an embarrassment to the state.

I guess the Democrats would prefer Democrat George Wallace who believed in segregation and was Democrat presidential candidate in 1968 and 1972. I see the NAACP losing power as an organization and since shifting to the left. I know it must worry black voters in the U.S. that they are a shrinking voting block for the Democrats as many young black males are voting independent or republican. Look at Detroit mayor and also Wayne County Michigan voting precincts that voted trump in fairly large numbers. I grew up in WV and the poor whites use to vote Democrat and now seem to vote republican as a whole. I deity politics aren't working for the Democrats anymore.

I remember back when a handful of folks 'protested' Obama's visit to the Ole Miss campus. Jerry Mitchell, Bill Minor and all the other hand wringing socialists bitched and moaned for months. It was suddenly the height of racism and unsportsman-like conduct that would forever paint our state in a bad light.

But, today, the Clarion carries a full, front-page article glorifying the 'protesting' of a potential presidential visit.

The Democrats would prefer Lavar Ball be a guest speaker and represent the big baller brand than have a successful black speaker such as Herman cain, Ben Carson or even thomas sowell... they are uncle Tom's I guess huh... someone such as Bennie Thompson or racist Jesse jackson. It's no wonder the black family has been destroyed since the welfare state took place. No longer a serious voting block and decreasing daily with immigration. Open borders are also hurting blacks.

For those of you calling the President the great racial sage... and that Democrats are overreacting.

“A well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market, I think sometimes a black may think they don’t have an advantage or this and that. I’ve said on one occasion, even about myself, if I were starting off today, I would love to be a well-educated black, because I believe they do have an actual advantage.”

(Come to Mississippi and see if that holds true)

“They don’t look like Indians to me and they don’t look like Indians to Indians,” — Testifying before Congress

(All Indians are supposed to be super dark and smoke peace pipes?)

Let’s not also forget he just couldn’t BELIEVE a black president wasn’t born in Kenya.

So yeah, black civil rights leaders are a little pissedvoff he’s being asked to open a Civil Rights Museum in what was one of the most racist states in the union.

@ 7:29 you are wrong in so many ways! You obviously haven't been outside your room for quite some time have you?

Anonymous said...

Let me start off by saying I'm an actual African American, a legal immigrant from the continent. I know my genealogy begins in Africa, but I've assimilated into American culture. I've lived the American dream -- I'm a well-educated small business owner, and I'm a socially and fiscally conservative man, but I am also pragmatic in that I understand that absolutist ideologies inherently fail (open a history book). I escaped from a country that endured an ethnic, and ostensibly ideological cleansing, or more accurately, a genocide that the UN has yet to declare as such, and many of my friends were childhood soldiers fighting for a cause they didn't understand and for people who didn't care about their future.

As I began to get interested in becoming involved in my community I went to the NAACP to see what I could do. I have never felt less welcomed by ANY group, and the only thing I had in common with them was the color of my skin. When I began to discuss topics like personal responsibility and the long-term effects of the decay of the family unit I was mocked, called a racist, and an Uncle Tom (I didn't even know what that meant).

That being said, and in the interest of honesty and full candor, I feel as though the NAACP should re-name itself as the NAACCP (National Association for the Advancement of Certain Colored People). If you don't fall in line with their ideology, you're an outcast and self-loathing racist.

Amen and amen. If they would even welcome him a little bit, it would serve them far better than this hostility, but sigh, they cannot see it. I wonder if this option has even crossed their minds? Probably not, because they don't want to see it. They would rather make noise about something and blame someone rather than make even a small effort toward making it better.

45, he who has been endorsed by the KKK, which does not stand for Kind, Kuddly, Kristians, should have had the good graces to refuse the invitation that the guvnah should never had extended. If 45 has enough sense to recognize that he shouldn't attend the Kennedy Center Honors because his presence would be a distraction, he should have enough sense to realize that his presence at a Civil Rights Museum would be distracting. He has repeatedly refused to condemn acts of violence toward people of color in this country. He has attempted to insult everyone in this country who is not a straight, white, male. He should skip on over to Alabama, campaign for Roy Moore and leave us be. We have enough homegrown racists (hey y'all) without having to deal with the presence of the CIC.

Anonymous said...

7:06, I didn't post it but I assume the "bend the knee" reference is due to the fact the goofball mentioned said if Trump spoke he was going to kneel in protest.

Anonymous said...

@ 9:45 Uncle Tom is not really the insult it has come to be. You should read Uncle Tom's Cabin to gain that understanding for yourself.

Why would the NAACP - or any organization - for that matter welcome anyone who doesn't fall in line with their ideology? What organization does? I can't go to a Young Republicans meeting and be mad that their beliefs are polar opposite to mine. I don't go to Wicca meetings expecting to hear the beatitudes. I think most people recognize that no racial/ethic group is a monolith, but organizations are generally composed of like minded individuals.

Anonymous said...

The Democratic party takes for granted that somehow it has earned the right to speak for Black people and as successors to the civil right's movement. That notion is ridiculous. They take advantage of Black political "leaders" need of the financial support of it's many affiliates and know that very few will speak out against this perversion of "civil rights" as long as they can get rich toeing the party line. Serious but unselfish activists like Malcolm X, Dr. MLK, Carmichael etc. all knew that political parties are like raincoats... you put it on and take it off as you need it. You don't become a slave to an organization bent on maintaining political power, or you'll be used like a disposable towel and discarded after you have cleaned up their mess. It's sickening to see these party wags use the legacy of civil rights icons to advance their party agenda. Sick.

Anonymous said...

It's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Ignore the civil rights museum and he's a racist who doesn't act presidential, show up and he's desecrating "sacred ground". Let em protest. They didn't pay for the damn thing by themselves. The whole state paid for it and if the governor (also a racist) wants to invite the president of the U.S. so what! They can pound sand! He will still be the president. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the purpose of this protest by the Democrats is to distract everyone from the Democrats who should be prominently featured in any Civil Rights Museum. Democrats who owned slaves. Democrats who seceded from the union. Democrats who founded the KKK. Democrats who passed Jim Crow. Democrats who advocated for "segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!". Democrats who filibustered against the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.

They wouldn't want anyone paying attention to actual history, would they?

I am hoping against hope that you did not do this as a slap to the African American community but there just seems to be no other explanation. 11:16. This BS that all of the racist Democrats suddenly became Republicans upon the passage of the Civil Rights Act has really come to prominence in the last 10 years or soAs Democrats attempt to escape their racist past.. Of course, it's all nonsense. Otherwise, all of the southern states would've had Republican governors by 1970. Did they? Of course not. It wasn't until the end of the Reagan era when the old racist Democrats were dying out that their progeny became Republicans.First Republican governor in Mississippi wasn't until 1989. Republicans didn't control the Mississippi legislature until 2011.

You know 9:49 the President has said time and again he does not support the Klan, its members, or beliefs. Spent most of his adult life, being on the record.

Unlike that two term affirmative action hire, who spent us all into oblivion, like his predecessor. Obama is a GD domestic terrorist loving radical. The SOB exalted Bill Ayers and a hack preacher. Said so in countless interviews and those press releases he calls biographies. All I see there is incompetence and disgrace glossed over by skin color sold as "check another f'ing first box".

Both 9:45 & 10:27 said it well.

Personally I like a man that gets up and tells it like it is. Trump is the first in high office to shove back, and say "No screw you". The first to call it, like most of us have been seeing it. I like that he is an equal opportunity insulter, regardless of party affiliation.

Welcome to Mississippi Mr. President!

I have been to multiple flag rallies and still have yet to see this mystical "klan" you race baiters speak of. In fact all the "white supremacists" I know are asian NEETs. Oh I'm sure one exists somewhere, but I'm pretty sure they've probably been boycotting Jackson for a while now and I for one will be shocked if they are willing to get out in 30 degree weather to stand in line three hours for the opening of a Civil Rights Museum. One day you'll turn off your television and stop falling for the Democrats scare tactics, and we can finally move forward as a country. It was Obama (whose own BROTHER says he was born in Kenya and campaigned for Trump - a black immigrant btw) who set us back half a century in terms of race relations, not Trump.

Oh, and I love Jackson's Christmas decorations by the way - flashing blue lights in every major parking lot. Classy!

I wish more of KF's readers knew something about Trump's life before he became a TV celebrity. He's been a running joke since the '70s. He was and is an "abominable human being." But this, too, shall pass.

I am curious as to when the civil rights museum will allow the catholics and Jewish populations be represented in the museum as well... seeing how they were equally oppressed and savaged by the KKK like the blacks at the time. Whoa! Just a doggone minute there, Bucko! I'm part of "The Gay Community" (not that there's much of a "community" around here), and I'm VERY pro-Trump. Yes, I realize that we're "supposed to" hate him, just as Jews are "supposed to" hate him, and women are "supposed to" hate him. But it ain't necessarily so.

As with everything else in this state, there's a sharp division in the "Gay Community". Those of us who live in Madison and Brandon (and, from what I've observed, in Belhaven and Eastover) are pretty solidly pro-Trump. Among other things, Trump stands for keeping out of this country, the very sorts of low-IQ creatures who make things difficult for Gay people (and for women, and for Jews).

Yes, the scrawny, substance-abusing, neurotic LOSERS who live in Belhaven HEIGHTS (not really Belhaven: it's on the North side of Fornication), the sketchy western edge of Fondren, and the storage sheds behind their mommas' singlewides in Pearl, are "Rainbow Coalition Democrats".

But we gays on the other side of the divide - the ones with muscles, money, and Mercedes, while not exactly Republicans - are social MODERATES and fiscal CONSERVATIVES. Among other things, WE believe that bakers have the right to refuse to make Gay wedding cakes, if they're crazy enough to turn down paying customers. As for the State Flag, "So? What's wrong with the one we've got? Does anybody actually CARE about that?" On the subject of Confederate monuments, "They cost a lot of money, and they look good. They make nice focal points in urban landscapes. Why throw away expensive accessories? Who cares about the symbolism?"

We don't view Trump as being particularly Conservative. We voted for him, because we view him as CENTRIST - a COMMON-SENSE leader, whose decisions are based upon reality, rather than upon ideology.

As for Hillary, the things we say about her are not fit to print. Our composite view of her, is of a narcissistic sociopath, who wants to confiscate Americans' guns, before throwing open the nation for waves of the very sort of immigrants from whom Americans (particularly Gays, Jews, and women) will NEED to defend ourselves. Hillary wants to do to Americans, what's been done to the peoples of England, Canada, and Australia: disarm the populace, then import criminal aliens, who'll rob, rape, brutalize, and murder us.

In short, we LOVE our Donald.

Are Chinese people represented in this museum or any story of civil rights struggles? You do realize they were not allowed to attend public schools in this state before the early fifties. There was no 'separate but equal' school building for them.

And they pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, conquered the discrimination, built businesses, profited, got their kids all educated and most of them left.

A year from now, nobody will know where this museum is. You people better make hay while the sun shines and milk this visit for all you can shake-down.

So sad. The dedication of this museum was an opportunity for Mississippi to pay respect and honor the African Americans who fought for dignity, fairness and inclusion. Its anticipated opening was already recognized and anticipated internationally. President Trump’s participation was not necessary. I respect the office of President but inviting him was Inconsiderate. This moment of dedication should have been a time of recognition and a first step toward reconciliation and acknowledgement. Instead, it’s being used as fodder for division by mean spirited people. And how ironic it is all being done under a flag donned by the Confederate stars and bars. A better move by the Governor would have been to conduct a ceremony which removed the current state flag and replaced it with a new one during the opening of the museum. Now that would have lent itself to some fine and much needed positive attention for Mississippi.

Well said, 8:19.

Such a shame that John Lewis isn’t coming. He is the real deal. The spirit of this event has completely changed since Monday’s announcement of Trump’s plans to come. I will still attend the opening on Saturday to show my support of the museum and of this important day for our state, but it won’t be the event that was originally planned. While I believe that Trump’s intentions might have been good in deciding to come to Jackson, he has turned it into a circus.

He definitely wasn't thinking about civil rights then, and he apparently didn't give a crap about black people then. What has he ever done that was inclusive to people of color? Our governor should have been the primary speaker, and Trump should have stayed in Washington and did what he does best, Tweet. Instead of today being a day where Mississippians gathered as one, today was about Trump. Trump just has to be the center of attention at all times. He's such a media whore.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
