I came across this touching article while digging around the archives of the Daily Clarion-Ledger. A.B. Smith's B-24 was shot down by the Germans over Belgium in 1944. The Jacksonian and three other crewmen were hidden by a Belgium girl and her family. The 1948 article posted below gives the details of the heroic story. He stayed hidden until the Allies liberated the area. His rescuer visited him and his wife in Jackson when this article was written.
