Erick Hambrick died yesterday. JPD investigating.

Second Update: JPD is awaiting Waffle House video.  The restaurant is cooperating with JPD.  The autopsy has not been completed.  The reason for the delayed start in the investigation is it was thought at first that the case was one of only a medical emergency as  Mr. Hambrick was discovered lying down in the parking lot.   It was determined by family members at the hospital that an item of jewelry was stolen.  JPD does not have any suspects or descriptions as it has not yet obtained a copy of the video.    June 1. 12:37 PM.

Update: Spoke to JPD.  JPD is awaiting results of an autopsy and said the case is currently considered to be a "death pending" investigation.  He was robbed and assaulted.   9:22 PM.

Erick Hambrick died last night.  JJ is trying to get more information but was able to confirm some of these Facebook posts with JPD.*  He was apparently assaulted and robbed at the Waffle House on High Street Thursday night and was removed from life support last night. Needless to say, JJ is getting swamped with emails from people asking for more information.  He was 52 years old. He performed at the Mississippi Opera and worked at the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Book focuses on bootlegger & his killer.

One can find on Google books a substantial preview of the book  Juke Joint King of the Mississippi Hills;  the Raucous Reign of Tillman Branch.  The author is Janice Branch Tracy.  He was killed by Matthew Winters in the early 1960's.  Winters committed two more homicides years later and was convicted of all three murders.  He is currently serving a life sentence in the custody of MDOC.  The book contains a great deal of history on Winters and his crimes.  The preview is posted below.  Mr. Branch was a bootlegger, juke joint owner, and a regular gun-totin' tough guy with a mouth to match.  Winters is currently the subject of much scrutiny as the three-time killer was housed Hinds County community work center.  The book should be an interesting read.

Updated post: Sheriff says MDOC is not telling the truth. Why did MDOC place killers in work center?

Sheriff Tyrone Lewis addresses media
Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis called out MDOC for placing inmates convicted of violent crimes in the Hinds County Work Center at a press conference held Friday.  He said that such placement violated state law.  A firestorm of controversy erupted Thursday after MDOC Commissioner Marshall Fisher removed convicted murderer Jerry Mack from the work center Thursday. Commissioner Fisher said he was allowed to repeatedly leave the facility, had $435 and a driver's license, and was unsupervised. The Commissioner also removed 41 inmates from the work center last week claimed he removed them due to a Justice Department report that said the jail was not safe. However, the report stated that the Justice Department did not review the work center but instead reviewed only the detention centers in Raymond and downtown Jackson. Sheriff Lewis said MDOC was not telling "the truth" about the inmates or Mack.

Editorial: Dear Faye & Judge Weill....

Note: We goofed. Faye Peterson became attorney of record for Williams on February 11. I missed that filing and have no one to blame but myself.  Corrections have been made to the story.  The initial post named Hinds County Public Defender Michelle Purvis and her office as the attorneys for Williams.

It appears the trial for one of our Northeast Jackson hoodlums, Frankie Williams, was postponed due to the unavailability of defense counsel (see documents posted below.)  Mr. Williams has been charged with a variety of crimes over the past year.  He was no billed by a grand jury for aggravated assault and arrested for aggravated assault again after he allegedly tried to shoot his cousin.  JPD consider the resident of Clair Street to be one of the "superstars" of burglaries in Precinct 4.  JPD crime reports state house burglaries in Precinct 4 are down from 202 a year ago to 116 on May 10.  This is probably due in no small part to the fact that Frankie Williams, Brodrick Robinson, and Tommy Young are in jail awaiting trial.   JJ reported earlier this year:

WSJ: Baltimore's failure typical of "blue-city" governing

The Wall Street Journal didn't pull any punches but instead laid Baltimore's failure at the feet of progressives who have run the city for decades in an editorial published last week:

You’re not supposed to say this in polite company, but what went up in flames in Baltimore Monday night was not merely a senior center, small businesses and police cars. Burning down was also the blue-city model of urban governance.

Nothing excuses the violence of rampaging students or the failure of city officials to stop it before Maryland’s Governor called in the National Guard. But as order starts to return to the streets, and the usual political suspects lament the lack of economic prospects for the young men who rioted, let’s not forget who has run Baltimore and Maryland for nearly all of the last 40 years.

The Kingfish subbed for KIM Waaaaaaaaade on WYAB today.  Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher appeared on both hours. The commercials recorded as dead spaces so just forward the recording by two or three minutes. The beginning of each one starts after 15-20 seconds.

When will Hinds County lock up Cedric Williams?

One of the Fisher Four.  Or should it be one of the DA's "Its only four"?  You decide.  Cedric is a veteran member of the Hinds County Catch & Release program.  Nothing can keep this guy in jail as he undoubtedly saw The Secret War of Harry Frigg many times as a child.   Take a look at this guy's record and ask why he is not considered to be a habitual criminal.   Convictions for burglary, armed robbery, forgery, it doesn't matter.  Williams does not stay in jail.  Clinton seeks to arrest him and charge him with four counts of residential burglary.  He was the subject of a dispute between Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Schuler Smith at a press conference held earlier this week.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
