This is ridiculous. No doubt McDaniel won the republican vote. Cochrans true colors have shown. He is a disgrace to the Republican Party and Mississippi.

Whatever the outcome of this race, more eyes will be watching the winner swimming in that fishbowl than ever before.
Very little can be hidden these days.
Not even an ornament castle or rock can conceal their movements as they all gasp for oxygen in D.C.
Many are pathetic bottom feeders while the others start off with great ambition but soon find others controlling their oxygen supply. Circular movement becomes their path.
Something has to change.

Anonymous said...

a person who called for democrats to vote for Cochran just posted on facebook "I bet the tea party is going to try to blame this on democrats"

thats funny right there

Noticed Cochran signs on 61 South between Natchez and Woodville. No McDaniel signs. Cochran supporter really beat the bushes this time.

Well, when the general election comes, I'll vote for the Democrat. Might as well get a real one instead of wannabe Cochran.

Surely and I mean Surely, that people didnt vote for Thad because Brett dang Favre endorsed him. Man I hope that is not the case.

Pete doesn't need a gun. He will just spin in your eyes.

I actually talked to someone today who went from being ambivalent to being a Thad soldier completely on the basis of the Brett endorsement. People are strange.

@855. Expected to hear that, just not so early. I, however, will vote for McDaniel should he win. Cant see giving this seat to the Dems if McDaniel should win.

@909 it is embarrassing. We are supposed to be this conservative state and we are letting the weak candidate win(Cochran).

Hope Pete packs every single day.

Anonymous said...

People are strange, yes. Like those that support a failed Governor and support whatever she says to support.
Like her candidates, her show on TLC, her books, her choice of eyeglasses.

This election is and should be decided by Mississippians.

Senator Cochran, win or lose, has never embarrassed his state and yes he has been there when schools, local governments, private businesses, etc. needed him.

The other candidate, win or lose, has already met his quota for embarrassing moments for the next six years!

Cochran passed out the " walking around money" to the black pastors. Simple as that. He bought the election.

Best part of the day - a priest caught trying to vote in the Republican runoff when he had voted in the Democratic primary. At first he insisted he had not voted in the Democratic primary. Then when I told him our poll books showed otherwise, he slunk out of there saying he didn't remember voting in the Democratic primary. And he left his priest's collar at home. I just recognized him. Pretty sure he was lying.

Got to believe that most voters realized that they didnt
want to be the sacrificial lambs for the Tea Party.

Anonymous said...

I find it funny that many people are often heard making remarks about throwing all of the people in Washington out of office because they are sick of the BS. Then Election Day comes. The day when people have that opportunity. The day to put their money where their mouth is. But what do they do? They cower like spineless minions. What is the old saying? If you keep doing what you've been doing, you'll keep getting the same results.

Thad/Haley did indeed buy it from minority voters. Six more years of this garbage, or until Thad passes and Feel appoints Haley. At least we made them sweat.

Anonymous said...

Shhhhh did you hear that? The tea party just died.

Anonymous said...

9:34 pm That's a silly notion.

It's like firing all your employees and thinking that starting over with people who have no clue how the company functions will be better.

You have to have some core institutional knowledge and experience.

You need to fire those who haven't performed, not every damn person.

McDaniel should've realized that Black people vote too. You can't write off an entire demographic in 2014 and still win. Information Age won today. 1965 lost. Widen the tent you say?

Anonymous said...

@9:29 PM

Are you crazy? Do you realize how much out of state money has poured in to fund McDaniel's race. Really? Do you really want the Koch brothers to own your Senator? Do you even know who the Koch brothers are?

Burke said...

I am heartened to see those who voted for a symbol are already turning tail, whining and bitching. But it's a false sort of elation. We are still threatened with a debt-ridden future. McDaniel could not have done a damn thing about it, because he is a hollow thing. It's time to expend the effort to find better candidates. Our fears and hopes are real enough. When will the best of us find the courage to make a difference? That means you, Senator Cochran. And you, Senator Wicker. And you, Congressmen Thompson, Nunnellee, Harper and Palazzo. Get off your sorry butts and make a difference.

Cochran just got the check mark. Let's get to work.

My 9:33 post makes a lot of sense when you consider
that Mississippi benefits greatly from federal spending.
Do you think McDaniel would be as successful in bringing
in more dollars as Cochran ? Do you think he really could
have cut Federal spending outside of Mississippi ? No way, no how.

Anonymous said...

Dang Chris! I am sorry you lost to "him". I will make it up to you and not waste my vote in November I PROMISE!

Mack said...

True enough, Burke. Changes need to be made. This was not the solution, but will hopefully spring some into action.

Anonymous said...

What is Melanie going to do now? She expected to be McDaniel's Chief of Staff in DC. She cost Natchez $6 million in state funds, so re-election is out.

Anonymous said...

Amen to 10:06. That should be the biggest take-away for people from this election. You can't take the black population for granted in Mississippi. You can't go on these racially tinged anti-Obama screeds and think that 40% of the population isn't going to hear it. We won't go back.

And for those who want to say this election was bought by Democrats who crossed party lines--well, those are the rules. And guess who wrote those rules? I'll give you a hint...it wasn't the black minority.

Anonymous said...

Looks like that post-Cantor Tea Party momentum came to a screeching halt tonight!

Anonymous said...

When Thad retires and Haley gets one of his flunkies appointed to replace him, there'll be another senatorial election.

Maybe by then the majority of the MS GOP will have taken back their party.

Anonymous said...

Well, we McDaniel crazy woman tell reporter she would be voting for Childers.

She said she knew " where Childers stands" but didn't know where Thad stood.

Perhaps if McDaniel had run on Thad's real record instead of an invented one, she'd know.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't consider this a WIN - kind of like one of those close baseball games - when the team wins by a bad call.... Oh by the way, did "he" show up for the speech? and...Keep lookin' at yo' paycheck deductions and watch yo' money dwindle away and away and away unless you do something about it in November. At this point, I don't see anything that differs Thad from a democrat - either money goes to the po' or the rich - either way doesn't matter anymore.

Anonymous said...

We have an astoundingly unique southern politic...it goes back a century. Break out the Rittenhouse, KF. You have one poster saying if Cochran wins, the weak candidate wins. McDaniel was a weak politician at home for years...Mississippi has national position. But we don't have one person in our state legislature worthy of going to Washington. McDaniel is certainly in the bottom 3rd. Our internal State is a mess.

Anonymous said...

First comment. The ridiculous amounts of time we spend arguing over political candidates who are not very different and who are first and foremost for themselves is, well, ridiculous.

We are going to have a major financial meltdown in this country (and 2008 was a pimple compared to what is coming) because none of us are willing to face what must be faced.

We have to recreate a society where we actually have to think about every dollar we spend, rather than tapping a key on a keyboard and "printing" it.

When the meltdown comes, and it is coming, channel you anger into creating a political system that works. HINT, as little government and politicians as possible.

WTF are members of the dugger family doing standing behind McDaniel?

Anonymous said...

OH MY GOD!

That was the longest audition tape for a national radio show gig that I've ever heard.

Anonymous said...

This election should be a lesson to us that we need to get poor influences and poor politicians out of our statehouse before the Tea Party finds and endorses them.

Anonymous said...

Pot calling kettle....heard McDaniel supported saying she would support Travis Childers over Thad Cochran....15 minutes later Chris McDaniel is insinuating the cross-over votes cost him the run-off....

Anonymous said...

Good point 10:42. Someone from Arkansas. McDaniel's sour grape speech isn't helping GOP.

Anonymous said...

Wow, it's been a while since I've heard a speech like that from a sore LOSER. That's right folks, McDaniel LOST. What's he think he's going to do, disenfranchise people who normally vote Democrat because they voted in the Republican primary? Good luck with that one. You don't like crossover voting? Then change the law or rules or regs or whatever. Don't whine after the fact. It wouldn't surprise me if McDaniel tried to run as an independent. Sore Loser.

Anonymous said...

Clearly the more educated, financially secure voted with their brains. Let the losers eat cake. They are beneath us.

Anonymous said...

I would not call this a landslide you guys are acting like he took it... well, maybe he did take it (one way or another). Thad needs to sit in his recliner and think long and hard about why it wasn't a larger margin, why he lost this many votes to CM, or does he even care? CM got "almost" as many and if by majority, CM would have won the 1st time around - so TC needs to massage that around a bit and realize the public is getting discouraged with him and his staff. This should have been a wake up call for CHANGE. The total voting tally does not represent entire MS but only a portion - and he needs to remember that!

Anonymous said...

8:44 that's right and DC may realize that Thad ain't so popular as he once wuz..... something to think about.

Anonymous said...

There is already a write in McDaniel page started on FB. The crowd in Hattiesburg was chanting write him in. Go ahead and try. Palin and Santorium will desert him, funding will be nonexistent and he will forfeit any future in the GOP. Reagan lost gracefully and came back stronger. But based on what we have seen so far, why would we expect any class from this guy.

Anonymous said...

Note to the Republican Party:

Those freeloading black people don't vote. Believe me, it's a lot of them. They don't work, don't vote, don't rear their kids. Just suck that gubmint tit. Us hardworking Black folks, believe me it's a lot of us, love to vote. We just don't like the tea party. They remind us of a bad era.

So we voted tonight, not really for Thad, but against Chris. I don't ever want to see his face on TV again. That smurk looks evil. He may be a good dude, but there are a lot of Confederates on his side. Enough for me and my family to vote against him. Republicans, we don't care for Childers either, not convincing enough. Will the Republican Party please wise up and grab this unhappy electorate. Educated black people are sick and tired of voting democrat.

Anonymous said...

Call me old fashioned, but shouldn't state officials represent the whole state? Nor just their "constituency" like Pappy O' Daniel?

Anonymous said...

Sooo the news said that 7000 or so new votes from south and west hinds county.... your thoughts on why these folks didn't care to vote the first round but did this round? Just curious.

Anonymous said...

11:08 you are soooo white. LIAR.

Anonymous said...

11:08 oh please spare me. You are now the 3rd black in Miss. in my lifetime that I've heard of voting republican. (The other 2 moved to MS from out of state). Wait, were you born and raised in Miss?

Anonymous said...

It was real SWEET. Thank you Austin!!

Anonymous said...

"I will vote for the dem in november. Will not be any difference. "

Uh, the difference will be four more years of Harry Reid single-handedly obstructing the House, or hopefully something better.

Anonymous said...

I'm absolutely disgusted with the way Cochran won this race. However, I won't cut off my nose to spite my face and vote for Childers. But you can bet there are some things I will do:

1. Work for a constitutional amendment for closed primaries.

2. Work for a constitutional amendment to change how Mississippi fills U.S. Senate vacancies -- election rather than gubernatorial appointment.

3. Support any true conservative independent or third-party challenger to Bryant, Reeves, Hosemann, Chaney, Pickering, Fitch and Hyde-Smith for the rest of their prayerfully short careers.

Anonymous said...

McDaniel and his supporters screeching about challenging results while FreedumWorks and the Tea Party Express were already in the wind by 9 PM.

Anonymous said...

I voted for McDaniel in the primary simply because I'm a term limit believer no matter who it is; then I read the neshoba democrat story about how ineffective he has been as a legislator (0 for 38 in bills on 2014); the guy can't get things done here; they would toss him around like a rag doll in DC....sure Thad may be a porker but I'm this day and age that's just the way it is.

They all talk balanced budget but who are we kidding here; you play the game, negotiate and bring home some bacon.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous people...think inside the State of Mississippi. Think about having effective state legislators and governors we don't mind putting up for a national office without an outside interest buying them because they do right by us in our state. WE ARE MISSISSIPPI. I have never joined a political party, was very educated in politics and media...We have had for a very long time every thing we needed on a national level...not so on a State level.

Anonymous said...

You Thad supporters better get ready. Childers is coming and "he's bringing hell with him." Stolen qoute from the Tombstone movie but I thought it might fit the current atmosphere!

Anonymous said...

Now we can enjoy:
1. Haley, Austin & Henry Barbour sit back and get richer off their total access to Thad's power.
2. The debt skyrockets more. Consequences, schmonsequences, as long as Barbours get rich.
and
3. You will never set eyes on ol' Thad again.

Anonymous said...

I'm not happy with the debt we're in, and I hope Cochran realizes how wide and deep that sentiment is among his constituents and changes his voted accordingly.

The other guy's appalling lack of accomplishments in his current job, his lack of a plan to explain just exactly what spending he would cut (and how he would do it),coupled with his clearly stated determination not to cooperate or compromise with the other 99 senators if he disagrees with them, made him a non-starter in my book. He also gave me that stereotypical used car salesman vibe.

We are heading for an inevitable financial crunch when the markets realize the country owes more than it can pay. When they stop lending we will have a severe retrenchment in the federal budget, and I am glad Cochran will presumably be leading the Appropriations Committee and look out for our state's best interests, as opposed to having the senator from Alabama using that position to look out for his constituents.

Anonymous said...

11:23 I think you need to look at 11:55. While you are working for stuff, think about terms limits. Thad's win proves what we have seen over and over for decades - folks get to Washington and buy our votes with our money and somehow we lack the will to stop it. I think term limits will be critical to saving us from ourselves. But if there ever was a grassroots fight term limits is it. It will take a massive uprising of the people to throw out the career politicians.

McDaniels is a sore loser and certainly not a republician. He speaks of Reagan but bashes democrats who vote republican. He needs to go to school and learn about the Reagan Democrats who helped sweep Reagan into office.

Anonymous said...

At what tine did mississippi change its primary system? When I registered decades ago, democrats couldn't vote in republican primaries?

6:08, is that for the primaries only, or does that extend to general elections as well? Time to put up or shut up.

Pablo said...

I think Cochran will retire before this time next year, which will make a whole bunch of buttholes pucker.

Anonymous said...

If what I saw in Hinds county is any indication, quite a bit of the cross over vote was college age and those able to vote for the first time.
There were 6 young people and me when I voted and I saw young people standing with Thad signs in the rain at two precincts I passed on the way to work.
I also would suggest you look at the female vote percentages.
Do remember, the Chism poll , as he pointed out were land lines.
Those of you who imagine all people of color are wedded to the Democratic party forget they know the GOP was once the party of Mr. Lincoln and don't seem to understand they support many GOP positions in issue based surveys. Many are church goers.
The increase in turnout was an anti-McDaniel, anti-Tea Party vote. This is actually the second Tea Party defeat in MS if any of you remember the Parenthood referendum.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if all the McDaniel voters who claim they are going to vote for Childers realize they'll be breaking the law. That also includes any of them who vote for McDaniel should he decide to run as an Independent.

Anonymous said...

My bet is McDaniel will continue to show his ass today. One reason I didn't vote for him, other than my main reason that he hadn't accomplished anything in the state senate, is that he looked and sounded sleazy. His totally ungracious non-concession speech absolutely confirmed that my gut was right. He's a real piece of work.

Anonymous said...

IF McDaniels challenges the elections, it will take months if not years and will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Tea Party will not spend that kind of money on a lost cause. Chris needs to go back home.

Anonymous said...

Plenty of McDaniel supporters are now attacking the open primary system... only because they lost. I don't know how many of these people are Jackson residents, but as a Jacksonian I LOVE the open primary. As a republican, I would neot be able to vote for the de facto mayor of the city unless the democratic primary was open - the primary allows my voice to be heard. It's the same story with State Senate elections. No chance in hell that a democrat is winning the general election, so what is so wrong about allowing democrats to voice their opinions in the de facto election, the Republican primary?

Anonymous said...

I'm glad Cochran won. McDaniel lacks both the character and record of accomplishment to carry the party banner.

Anonymous said...

I was alternately appalled and amused listening to McDaniel's speech last night.
He " joined " the GOP at 13? He did so because his daddy said, " I guess we're Republicans"?
Then he admits he no longer identifies with the GOP as " it left him".
He goes on to list the issues he said weren't " extreme". Unfortunately, he forgot that he didn't campaign with any specificity on those issues and worse, named patriotism as an " issue". He thus implied that only the Tea Party is patriotic and loves this country. That's not an " issue", that's an insult to every GOP and Democrat who fought for our country from a man who could have and chose not to do so.
And, he can't help but try to also claim Christianity for the Tea Party as if there are no Black churches and no church going Democrats.

Now I read in these blogs how McDaniel supporters will not vote GOP ever again. One can only conclude that their vote wasn't about reducing debt, reducing government or fiscal conservatism or Christian conservatism after all.

What does that leave? I suppose the hope that Childers will marginalize himself and be uncooperative within his stated party of preference and be content to sit on inconsequential committees.

I would suggest to all the Tea Party that if you want to fix a car that isn't running well, the first thing you need to do is learn auto mechanics. Otherwise, your uninformed " tinkering" will likely break more than it fixes!

So far, that's all we've gotten from the TPs, an unrealistic approach so that instead of health care reform, we have Obamacare. Instead of Immigration reform, we have a fence that isn't working. Instead of fiscal reform , we have sequester with cuts where cuts shouldn't be and a lower rating. And, we have constant arguing, stalemate and no solutions to serious problems. And, when it comes to taxes, your record on federal taxes is ok, but did you miss that state and local taxes increased and increased in ways that hurt the already hurting middle class even more?

You've made the system even unworkable instead of fixing it.

Passion and ignorance and arrogance are bad combinations.

If you tried to be FOR some specific reforms, you might could have become a reform party. But, you were " all hat and no cattle".

Anonymous said...

Hey all you radical republicans - suck it up and salute!

I wonder if all the McDaniel voters who claim they are going to vote for Childers realize they'll be breaking the law.

The law is meaningless. So what is your point?

Anonymous said...

Ted Cruz was given an opportunity to criticize the open primary system in Mississippi this morning on Fox News. He didn't do it, and instead said that it happens all the time and it is "just politics". I found it interesting that he never campaigned for, or endorsed, McDaniel. I am not a political expert, but I do not feel that the democratic party is going to spend a lot of money to challenge Thad in the general election.

Anonymous said...

One can only conclude that their vote wasn't about reducing debt, reducing government or fiscal conservatism or Christian conservatism after all.

Thad has delivered on those four? Hardly.

Anonymous said...

One thing that is so sad in this is that Thad should be getting a message here. The message is that half of us are so worried about the federal debt and insane growth of the federal government that we were willing to throw out Thad and all his power and experience just to put a guy up there who would try to do something about it. Sadly, Thad won't get it. He will think that some out of state wackos were out to get him. I truly believe that 'bringing home the bacon' is so deeply ingrained in him that he has no clue what were are trying to say. Such a shame the he didn't announce his retirement and let the people select his successor. No doubt there would have been some good candidates.

Anonymous said...

Where was Melanie last night? Did y'all notice that ole Chris didn't seem to acknowledge his long suffering wife standing next to him?

@8:47 nailed it.

Now we need to charge those kooks that were in the courthouse!

Anonymous said...

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Tea Party had no problem when democrats voted for Brat (whom the national tea party provided no support) against Cantor, even cheered it on, but now suddenly are outraged when the cookie crumbled the other way. And don't discount the number of Republicans who turned out this time to vote Cochran who didn't vote last go round. Democrats didn't have the monopoly on being terrified by McDaniel.

Anonymous said...

so its OK for democrats to vote against Eric Cantor in Va. and vote for the tea party candidate but not ok for democrats to vote for Thad and against the tea party candidate.. But HEY...McDaniel voted in a democrat primary...so I guess that was OK as well????? Whats good for the goose.....

Anonymous said...

I think most of us would agree that Democrats put Thad over the top. Nothing illegal about it. I find it very interesting that Fox News headline reads 'Bad night for Democrats'. Our senate race is discussed in some detail. If you believe Fox, these Democrats were voting against their own interest. Fox thinks like many on this site that McDaniel might have lost in November. Evidently the Democrats who voted for Thad agree with me, McDaniel would have won in November. He would have been a weaker candidate, but running against Oboma's record should be a piece of cake for anybody.

Anonymous said...

9;29

Maybe Thad retiring and letting the people select his successor would have been a good idea, but McDaniel was not the "good" candidate you speak of. I might have voted differently for a "good" person but after hearing McDaniel last night I know Thad is better for the State.

Anonymous said...

@ 10:38. I think that you are wrong. I think Briggs Hopson on the Senate side is solid and would be good in DC (as would Watson). Philip Gunn on the House side would do a good job in Washington.

Anonymous said...

Will the Democrats who supported Thad be there for him in November? Here's a taste of what Thad's new friends are about to do to him:

"There is no freakin' way I would vote for someone who couldn't find it in himself to vote with the majority for a resolution apologizing for the federal government's refusal to stop lynching. And that's only one reason [I would never vote for Cochran]. All those contrasting campaign cards going to "white" neighborhoods with one message and "black" ones with another is yet another reason."
Comment by Donna Ladd under http://www.jacksonfreepress.com/news/2014/jun/23/mcdaniel-polling-ahead-blacks-still-big-unknown/

Ms. Ladd is referring to Cochran's refusal to support a formal apology for the US Senate not doing more to stop lynchings. Details include:

June 2005. The United States Senate formally apologized for the body's failure over the years to pass a federal anti-lynching law that might have been used for intervene in lynchings that occurred in the past century. The symbolic resolution, co-sponsored by 80 Senators, was passed by unanimous voice vote. A recorded vote was skipped to avoid embarrassing the one Democratic and 19 Republican Senators who decided not to put their names on the resolution as a co-sponsor, including Thad Cochran from Mississippi.

@9:24 has a good point. With Democrats trying to defend seats in at least 4 hotly contested states (Arkansas and Louisiana being 2 of them), I don't think they'll dump much money into Mississippi. However, a lot depends on how dramatic the hard-right Republicans are for the next few weeks and whether McDaniel is willing to "Let It Go" (see what I did there?) or whether he makes a spectacle of himself for a while longer.

Anonymous said...

First, great job KF on covering this. Second, I do think you and Gallo leaned establishment a bit on this one but you're entitled and I like it when people are up front. At least the RINOs will now understand that they have to start paying more attention to the middle and lower-middle instead of full attention to the upper and the businesses. I, for one, am a businessman and vet and I'm canceling my three Chamber memberships because of their positions on illegals and the rule-of-law. I'm sick of the government because I understand how they operate and the ridiculous burdens they place on people like me who employ people and who provide taxes. So Haley, Trent, Rove, Thad, Phil, and the other folks firmly committed (and profiting) from the lobbyists need to quit wetting their beaks and focus on small business and the taxpayers. Yes, the "Tea Party" should start thinking about better people to organize and should put duct tape on a few of those gals who, for some strange reason, are allow to act as spokespersons. But hopefully the puppeteers in DC will get the message that folks are serious about the debt, the constitution and the hordes flooding our borders (some of which are freakin' terrorists you idiot Dems). Thus endeth the lesson :-)

And in the end, what will it really matter? (*Cynical Gallic shrug here*) But philosophical musings aside, my question is: what does this mean for the shamed *troika* of Constitutional, Mayfield, and Sager? What do KF's loyal commenters think will happen to them? Any bets?

I keep hearing McDaniel people and in particular Tea Party people discussing a write-in option for Chris McDaniel in November. They all need to do some research. Pursuant to MS Code § 23-15-365, names written in on the ballot are only considered in the event of the death, resignation, withdrawal, or removal of a candidate officially printed on the ballot. It just goes to show you that these out-of-state Tea Party people that brought in so much money do not even know and/or care about our laws. And FYI: this law is actually enforceable (and would be enforced by SOS).

Note to 8:47 We have been using professional auto mechanics for our politicians for decades. We believe the results have been disastrous. The only solution seems to be that the people must put the fear of God into them. I. E. if you don't try to reduce the size of the federal government we will replace you with someone who will. Will some 'good china' be broken in the process? Damn right. We cannot do this by being neat and clean. But it must be done to save the country. So you polk fun at us for our missteps and keep voting for the same thing you have voted for for 50 years. And as you do, please stop and realize that while you are being nice, you are allowing Oboma & friends to destroy the country. At least we are trying to save it.

No it wouldn't

12:30 pm You haven't had enough good " auto-mechanics" because you've not paid attention to the details. You haven't made it your business to hold your party and it's candidates accountable.

James Webb was a first rate " mechanic". Many of the Contract with America people you voted in were first as well, but you let your own party defeat them in primaries when they wouldn't drink the party Kool Aid.

There are no angels on the either side of the aisle. But, the real problem is that the good guys who would vote their conscience are run off by their own party.

You want good government. Start with meaningful election reform that can't be overturned. For example, pass a law that says no candidate in a State or local election can accept a contribution from any individual or business that doesn't pay taxes within the area they are to represent. Pass a law that any money given to a PAC must be spent on national elections unless that PAC exclusively operates only in the state or local community of the candidate they wish to support.
Demand the House eliminate all exceptions to The Stock Act not specifically excepted in the act.
Demand Congress get rid of the " Leadership Foundation".
Support zero based budgeting and line item veto. Require every agency to report every 4 years program success or failure.
Demand that every judge appointed to the Supreme Courts and District Courts have to have gone to an accredited law school and graduated in the top 25% of their class and have had to practice law at least 10 years or be tenured at an accredited law school.

I could go on...and on...and on...

We didn't get in this mess in one or two administrations. It'll take time to fix.

But, it STARTS with voters being informed.

So require Civics and Political Science and Philosophy to be taught in every high school for starters. And, American history should be divided in to Early and Post 20th Century.

At least the electorate might then at least have common definitions of words!

Oh boy! Paranoia runs deep. McDaniel doesn't concede and figures crossover voters had voted in the Democratic primary.

I'll betcha more than a few of the new voters were "new" voters who had turned 18 and college students...both of whom were busy in the first primary.

I'm now leaning away from sociopath and towards mentally ill.

To heck with it, I've ceased caring. This state gets what it deserves, as does this nation. We are doomed, a long slow-motion trainwreck is occuring and there is no derailing it as long as our campaign/lobbying status quo remains. As Pogo once said "I have seen the enemy and he is us".

Don't know what state the electoral genius at 7:06 was registered in, but in Mississippi we have never had party registration and always had the right to vote in either party primary. The total ignorance of many voters is scary - particularly when it comes to conduct of elections.

But this ought not surprise us. The "Constitutional candidate" McDaniel - the chairman of the State Senate Elections Committee - obviously doesn't either. Heard him today on two talk shows saying he 'hadn't decided' on whether to start a write-in campaign. Showed his ignorance again, or his total disregard of the law - take your pick. Write in votes are not counted in Mississippi unless the other candidates have all died or withdrawn.

Nice try Chris - you even failed in your attempt at a talk-show gig.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Note: Security provided by INS.

Trollfest '07

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.

There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
