Election day thread

Consider this to be your election day thread.  Want to post the turnout at your precinct, post here. Think The Kingfish overlooked an article that just would have made the difference in the election? Post it here.  Good luck to both sides.  Since we now have voter ID, we will have to say drink early and often today.

I will say this. Some of you are completely fixated on Senator Cochran's comment about doing indecent things to animals. Some keep trying to make comments and link stories about it so much that I wonder if they are the ones who are fixated on doing indecent things to animals.... themselves.  Yes, I wrote it.  I didn't discuss this subject for two reasons.  The first reason is because the rest of the media covered it quite thoroughly.  So much so I did not see what this site could have contributed to the discussion other than providing another forum for the same twenty people to attack each other.  The other one is more simple.

Its true the comment is great fodder for someone such as Colbert. However, once upon a time before 50% divorce rates, helicopter moms, x-boxes, ipods, and the like, boys spent a large part of their time outside.  Period.  It was not uncommon for a mom to say go outside for a few hours.  So kids would roam the neighborhood on bikes, play in the woods, make up games to play, and at times get into mischief.  If you lived near some woods or a ditch, well, there were all kinds of critters that attracted a little boys attention.

Gasoline in fire ant beds? oh yeah.  That was fun.  Kids had a slingshot?  Good luck to the poor bird that got too close. Snakes? Now we're talking.  Shovels.  Half kill one and then give it to the cat for his amusement. Amuse himself he did. Some more mischievous boys liked to get their hands on frogs. Poor things (I left them alone.).  Then more than a few boys got to shoot bb guns before they were 10.  What the hell do you think they did with them in the back yard?  Then there were some boys that liked to do things to cats and dogs although an ass-whupping usually followed when caught.  Little boys don't live outdoors anymore.  The rotor blades rotate very rapidly as the helicopter moms can't stand to let their baby out of their sight for one nanosecond.

I didn't interpret at all what he said to mean what some of you pervs claimed he meant.  I remember similar crap before in 92.  President Bush was the devil. Blah blah blah.  Then after the election everyone remembered he was a gentleman and suddenly had nice things to say about him.  Some of you forgot what it was like to be a little boy and how things used to be.

The media made too much out of this comment just as it blew some of Mr. McDaniel's comments out of proportion, hence the "Indecent Things and Boobies" post.   Some of you McDaniel people accusing me of favoring Mr. Cochran by not posting the stories about his "indecent" comment conveniently ignored the fact I didn't write about Mr. McDaniel's radio comments as well.

But then again, some of you want your own set of facts or fiction.

How would you know?

Black voters being intimidated in Copiah county. McDaniel groups telling Blacks they must be registered R to vote. Authorities have been alerted.

Yes, once upon a time we lived a Mayberry existence. However, you have to admit Cochran should have known better than to make such a comment about animals today. What else is likely to come out of his mouth? Moreover, why didn't he speak at all leading up to the Republican primary? All of the sudden Mississippi is "worth fighting for" because you might lose your day job? It surely was a good wakeup call for Senator Cochran. It's hard to respect the man due to his lack of respect for the average voter. If you want my vote, talk to me and tell me why you're the best candidate. Don't just assume you'll get my vote, or show up at the ninth hour and expect that I will pay you any attention. Also, don't bring John McCain to stump for you. McCain is an idiot. Finally, to the folks filling my Facebook feed with pipe dreams about how I should "vote for Thad because he won't finish his term. He will resign and the governor will appoint Greg Harper to fill his seat," have lost your minds. If Greg Harper wants that seat, he should have the decency to run and win it fair and square. Rant over.

11:41, some rants aren't all bad and if Cochran loses so be it, but know one thing! If these peckerwoods are lucky enough to beat the D peckerwood in November, that's it. The big boys will come in for 2015 and josh, q, austin, and henry and mostly kirk sims will be selling cars for watson ford. These folks won't give this party away.

Anonymous said...

11:24 It seems that black voters are always claiming to be intimidated about something.Get a life and quit trying to howl racists about everything. It just does not wash anymore.

11:50, I think the reality is the Republican party as we know it is selling most of its core members out. Think about the last few presidential races. We haven't offered a great candidate everyone could get behind in a while. The Republicans have a couple of real options: figure out who we are as a party and rally behind it with the folks they're losing to the Tea Party or die a slow miserable death while giving away the store to Democrats. Like it or not, the Tea Party has some steam and generally offers candidates willing to fight for what we once upon a time all believed in. You can't clearly pick out what the Republican Party's platform is anymore. For example, are we for amnesty for illegals now (John McCain)?

12:07 - these are reports from ppl on the ground. You dont like the facts, cant help you. I bet you that there will be no such reports from the Delta....McDaniel group cant go near there....and Thad is going to win as a result.

Anonymous said...

12:07 - 11:33 merely stated a claim of voter intimidation had been made and a report had been made to the proper authorities. He never mentioned racism. What's so tough to understand about that?

Mr. Fish:

The point of the "indecent things to animals" quote is to show in a rather discomforting way that Thad Cochran, at best is antiquated and out-of-touch. It feeds the narrative that while he's done his duty for four decades, it's time for him to come home and take care of his wife. It along with several other inexplicable Cochran gaffes prove that if any Republican is vulnerable in November - it is Cochran, not Chris McDaniel.

That being said, no Republican is really vulnerable to Travis Childers. Just consider:

• No Democrat has won a Mississippi U.S. Senate race since 1982.
• In 2008, MS saw record-high Democratic turnout with Obama on the ballot. The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate was a formidable one – Ronnie Musgrove, who'd won statewide before as governor. Even Ronnie Musgrove could barely managed to get within 11% of a republican that had never before run statewide, Roger Wicker.
• One of the MS Democratic Party's strongest candidates, Gene Taylor, switched to being a Republican to run against Palazzo as it was clear to him he would not win as a Democrat.
• Even as an incumbent, Travis Childers lost his own district (and thus his seat) in 2010 by nearly 15 percentage points.
• As politically astute friend of mine put it: “It is statistically impossible in an off-year election without Obama on the ballot that we will see a Democrat win a U.S. Senate seat in Mississippi.”

Additionally, Travis Childers voting record and views do not line up with those of most Mississippians . Here are some facts on that front:

• Travis Childers opposes repeal of ObamaCare.
• Travis Childers voted to make Nancy Pelosi the Speaker of The House, and said he didn’t regret the vote.
• Travis Childers voted for the $787 billion dollar Obama stimulus.
• Travis Childers voted for the $300 billion bailout of Fannie Mae.
• Travis Childers voted for Obama’s wasteful “Cash for Clunkers” program.
• Travis Childers voted against repealing the Death Tax and voted to increase it from 35% to 45%
• Travis Childers gave $2,000 to Massachusetts liberal John Kerry when he was running for President.
• Travis Childers voted to increase the debt by hundreds of billions of dollars.

That is why all voters can vote their consciences today - except for Democrats who have figured out that Cochran is the best they can get.

I voted against Thad again. Because he will not stand up and try to cut federal spending. But, if Thad wins he will get my vote in November. I certainly won't be voting for someone to help Obama.

11:31, small sample to be sure, but two Hattiesburg boxes, Rowan and Train Depot have already exceeded their June 3rd Full day numbers after just 4 hours.

If u vote for thad, might as well keep your wallet open. Rather it be obama dishing out free money or thad....... only difference is Obama gives it to po' folks and thad gives to rich folks. I am ready for change!

If Thad wins the runoff, and I hope he doesn't. I will hold my nose and vote for him in the November general election. As distasteful as I would find voting for him to be, there is no way that I will ever again vote for a democrat.

With all of these dirty tricks the Cochran campaign are doing today, if he wins, good luck getting me and my family to the polls in November.

He and Haley Barbour have made this bed, let them lie it.

I think it's pretty sad that after millions of $$$ being spent on Chris McDaniels behalf, I don't know (nor do most folks that I talk to) know:
"What committee would he serve on?"
"What specifically would be his first actions in office?
"When has he answered off the cuff any tough question"
"Why the big security presence? It's really scary.
"Why no scrutiny from the national media on his record
And the bizarre antics of his entourage?" Nursing homes, late night ballot box chicanery, talk show recordings.
"Why won't the national media give the African American voters in Mississippi credit for not wanting this whack job representing us? It IS about his racial past.
Something very strange is going on here and he has a bunch of people fooled into thinking he can actually come in behind Senator Cochran and do something in Washington. You may not like how Washington works but this guy is not the answer. Vote for the Sr. Senator....It's Important!

Anonymous said...

a little awkward...I just voted at St Phillips (Old Canton Road @ Westbrook Road) As you enter, to your left is the Republican table with 2 or 3 pleasant and smiling white women checking ID's and marking your name. Contrast that to your right is a table marked Democrat with 4 rather rotund black people with their arms crossed across their chests glaring across the room at you. What's with the attitude and what is the face making supposed to accomplish?

Mack said...

12:26 you are presumably supporting a candidate who refuses to work with anyone that doesn't agree with him. He is running for an office which has a primary skillset of negotiating and bargaining needed. That is the nature of the position. Which candidate is out of touch?

Thad can do more in a phone call than CM would be able to do in 6 years. Maybe in 40 years CM will be half as beneficial to this state as Cochran has been. But not if he has the holier than thou attitude and refuses to work with anyone as he has stated. DC will eat him up.

Lotta fear in this thread. Elect Cochran or else Mississippi will be the worst state in the US.

"and do something in Washington"

You're missing the point, 2:08. The Tea Party doesn't want Washington to do ANYTHING. "Won't do anything" is a plus, not a minus.

Anonymous said...

Well said 2:08. Add to this is the fact that his record as a state senator is mediocre at best. I voted for Cochran because he was the better option of the two. Also, I can see him stepping down before the end of his term and we will hopefully have a better choice than McDaniel.

Some of you that are commenting seem to have your heads buried in the sand. I voted Republican today and not matter which candidate wins the run-off, I will be voting for him in November. The lesser of two evils? Maybe, but either one will be 100% better than Childers. Wake up people, don't stay home in November just because you choice for the Republican nomination lost.

Will the phone stop ringing now or will 'pencil thin' start calling me?

I reckon this is the downside of having a land line.

I'm sure Mayor Mary told Thad's handlers to inundate all the municipal byways and city property with his signs. Sorry, ain't gonna help.

Does anyone know if McDaniel is passing out a free frozen turkeys to each voter in his little village of Ellisville? Instead of Merry Christmas did they have to say happy Election Day? Didn't you love his last commercial filled with people no one had ever seen talking about how McDaniel would restore the Constitution. Really? We never stopped using it, how can he restore it?

If Chris Mcdaniel wins, it's not to change Washington at all, but it sure will change Mississippi.

Although the Yankees may hate the tea party, they WILL LOVE the outcome of a Mcdaniel win.

CUT FEDERAL SPENDING TO ALL SOUTHERN STATES. THEY HATE THAT UNCLE MONEY BAGS DROPS MONEY HERE WHILE THEY PAY OUTRAGEOUS TAXES.

Ever wonder y this thing seems just so ' not quite right on the mcdaniel side of things?

UMMM YEAH....

THATS MY OPINION AND IM ' ENTITLED' TO IT!

@3:29. The reason we get more federal funding is because of the people on welfare, social security, disability and other entitlements. Think those will ever go away?

Anonymous said...

Finally at 4:33 CNN acknowledged McDaniel's past!. Would somebody please recognize that the fine folks of Mississippi that happen to be of color or are Hispanic want nothing to do with the McDaniel campaign? I think the point is driven home for them when McDaniel pulls up....you either see the fat bald security guy (which, by the way is supposedly going to be his Chief of Policy!) OMG! Or you see the other fat guy in the white Polo with Jeans and the biker chin beard rudely staring at anybody that gets close. What are they afraid of, a rush on 2 for 1 candles at the Hobby Lobby? Great CNN coverage for Mississippi to see these guys that look like Chumley on PAWN Stars as the first guys you see with McDaniel. Come on Mississippi! Clean up on Aisle 14!

If McDaniel wins, by the time the National media gets through demonizing him, his Mom might not vote for him. You can bet it will be brutal. Will make the Cochran team look like Boy Scouts.

@4:23. You mean to tell me that a state of roughly 3 million people receives more entitlement money than other states.??????
Favoritism of the entitlements?

Not a significant number, but as of 3 pm 16 had voted at Bishop Crudup's New Horizon Church compared to 10 all day on June 3rd.

5:30 -- I think that will be fully discussed by Childers, James Carville, Harry Reid, et. al. between now and November if Mr. McDaniel's wins the runoff.

He'll fall under the weight of his mouth, his reputation, his arrogance, and his history, before the general election.

Zorek Richards said...

I don't think Mississippi will really lose no matter who wins. This is just the primary. I think either of them can take Childers with little problem. There was a lot of rhetoric both ways which is typical campaign. Cochran disenfranchised me with his commercials and comments which tied McDaniel to events that there was no smoking gun to connect him to. But, that is what Establishment Republicans have always done to win. I voted for McDaniel and I really think he will win though it could still be very close. The momentum has been with McDaniel. I am a Mississippi transplant so am new to Mississippi politics. Back in South Dakota our sleazy politician was Tom Daschle, who finally got taken out. In Missouri it was Claire McCaskell. In Kansas it was our then Governor Sebelius. I agree with Kingfish assessment on the Thad Cochran comment about the "little animals." But remember what was done with Mitt Romney's "big bird" comment? It's a part of the political landscape when there are web sites like Wonkette, or when the Left gets all their news and talking points from a couple guys on the Comedy channel. IMHO :-)

I drove by the infamous Rowan School precinct in Hattiesburg this afternoon. There were maybe five or six McDaniel signs out by the street, but no McDaniel supporters in sight.

Contrast that with several African-Americans standing in several areas near the school holding Cochran signs.

The same was observed along the road that connects William Carey University to Highway 49 (also near the Rowan precinct). Groups of African-Americans holding Cochran signs.

At my own precinct in Lamar County (one of the largest), there were four or five McDaniel supporters (middle aged white males) holding signs and jumping up and down like they were hoping to be called on down on The Price Is Right. Contrast that with the one young person (white male) who was standing there calmly holding a Cochran sign.

Anonymous said...

Would someone explain how " The Free State of Jones County" went from being full of Union supporters to Klan central in a mere 100 years?

Anonymous said...

9:02, I saw the same in Hinds country. I told my spouse, I could never have imagined seeing so many black democrats happily waving signs for the elderly white (self-described conservative) republican male incumbent.

I didn't know whether to laugh, or cry. I hope they were getting paid, because they certainly got taken.

McDaniel is a head case, and sore loser. He is splitting the the Republican party.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
