Senate race update

A conservative group released a poll this week that showed incumbent Senator Thad Cochran with a rather nice lead over State Senator Chris McDaniel.  Senator Cochran led the State Senator 54-37. The sample size was 710 voters and the margin of error was +/- 3.68%.  The crosstabs are posted below. However, a Human Events/Gravis poll showed them in a dead heat.

The poll stated:

Overall, the results indicate that Senator Cochran is in a tight spot.  When pitted against Chris McDaniel, the race is virtually tied, with both candidates at 40% and 20% undecided.  Senator Cochran is also under the 50% threshold when looking at a generic run against a Tea Party candidate, gathering only 45% of the vote compared to 35% for the generic Tea Party candidate.  Additionally, only 39% of respondents approve of his job performance, with 40% undecided.

However, it must be pointed out the poll does  not release the crosstabs. The sample size was 691 voters who voted in prior elections.

Meanwhile the Cochran campaign signed up Governor Phil Bryant's Slugger of Staff, oops, I meant Chief of Staff Kirk Sims as campaign manager.  State Senator Melanie Sojourner manages the McDaniel campaign.

So, Cochran votes against (and trumpets that vote LOUDLY) a budget bill that didn't have a chance of passing with, or without, his vote. As the Church Lady used to say, "Isn't that special". He did, however, vote with his Democrat buddies for the NDAA, and all the other Constitution destroying bills his good buddy Harry Reid pushed. Way to go, Thad. Please go home now.

meant to say 'chance of NOT passing' rather than 'chance of passing'. That one small word makes a world of difference.

I smell a rat!

There have been 2 different polls, one conducted by a Democratic polling company named PPP and another by a GOP company known as Human Events/Gravis. Both essentially agree, indicating the race is tied at about 40% for McDaniel and 40% for Cochran, with 20% undecided.

Today a new poll was published, presumably conducted by the Cochran camp, which shows him with a nice lead.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

When I examined the crosstabs I noticed something strange about the new pro-Cochran poll: 61% of the respondents were OVER the age of 66, a pro-Cochran crowd. That's ridiculous. How in the hell did that happen? How can a poll be so elderly?

The Laurel-Hattiesburg region was NOT included in the polling. Since this is probably McDaniel's strongest base, the data clearly shifts the numbers in Cochran's direction.

It's skewed, folks. Haley probably had something to do with it.

What's this world coming to? If you can't trust a political poll, what can you trust?

This is going to be a close one!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah. Let's impress the world and elect a right wingnut empty suit, that parrots the Tea Party talking points. Really good move. You ultra right wingers have killed the party of Reagan (you know, the pres that said 80% of something is better than 100% of nothing). Keep it up and howl at the moon, while you idiots nail the last nail in our coffin

Cochran has been part and parcel of what has happened to this country. He has been in Washington probably longer than you've been alive (if your lack of self-dignity is any indication). It's because of Republicans like him that we are in the shape we are in. Time for him to retire. He's done enough damage.

Anonymous said...

Better to nail that last nail than to let the numbskull RINOs continue to screw up the joint. At least with the Democrats we know who wants to screw over the country. The RINOs talk a big game but in the end merely bend over when the Dems come over to mount them.

RINO's can WIN. Right wingnuts CAN'T. Last time I checked, the object was to win, then govern.

As a proud winner Democrat, I beg you bigots to keep it up.

A democrat in Mississippi with a political opinion. That's just to funny.

Donkeys cheer on RINOs because they know that RINOs lose.

70 - 30 Cochran wins! McDaniel is a nut!

McDaniel needs to ask the Senator why the Pentagon does not report to the Treasury on its annual spending as required by law? Why the Pentagon cannot account for its spending is a constitutional issue because civilian oversight is required over the military. In general, the tea party is right about the rule of law, lack of oversight, and common sense. Why can't I vote for McDaniel? He cannot articulate these weighty issues. If I makes the argument in intellectual and plain-speak--I will change my vote.

And so.... The poll was flawed after all!

The establishment will do anything to win, even create a flawed poll. Chris has my vote.

Why would a democrap have an opinion on this, since they don't have a dog in the race?

Anonymous said...

It appears that the McDaniel campaign is monitoring this website and is trying to influence the public debate through the comments section. Smart move. Will the Cochran campaign do the same?

Anonymous said...

The Democrats do have a dog in the race 1:27 - it's Cochran. He gets them their money!

And 4:49, Cochran has been winning and governing since the late 70's...and yet we are $17T in debt with close to $150T in unfunded liability. That's what you call governing?

Numbers are very skewed... Please read

11:43 the republicans have buckled again under the liberal press over the shutdown. Unfortunately government seems to be running on a popularity contest. It would be good if politicians could speak the truth and be elected, but they have to cater to voters and the biased information they receive. Voters elect these people on a lot of emotion that has nothing to do with the job at hand. Obama is a master at playing that fiddle to the naïve. It seem to me we have a group of thugs holding the high hand. While I believe Cochran is wishy-washy, and has run his gamut, I don't perceive McDaniel as an alternative. I had to vote for McCain due to the alternative choice, but I wasn't pleased. What are the Pubs going to do? I don't see a solution on the horizon. I don't like Christie, and I wouldn't vote for another Bush if he walked on water. Truth is, it doesn't matter what you and I think. The politicos think we're all a bunch of idiots.

Anonymous said...

The politicos do indeed think voters. especially their respective bases, are a bunch of gullible idiots.
And those voters who hate anyone and everyone who disagrees with their narrow view reinforce that belief everyday with their vitriolic nonsense.

Well you told us now didn't you! YOU are a big, big person.

Anonymous said...

The donkeys and rinos are scared ****less over the rising power of the tea party. How else to explain the vitriol constantly directed at them? The donkeys in particular make it very easy to determine who they really fear.

Anonymous said...

Both major parties fear the tea party because they expose the hypocrisy and corruption on the Potomac. Both parties absolutely want 'professional representatives'. Only tea patriots will come back to their respective districts after the term limit. Only Sen Coburn has talked plainly about the constitutional responsibilities of Congressional watchdog role of the representatives in the House and Senate. The tea patriots and voters should read his book on the proper oversight function and how it has been negated by corruption of the parties and their politicians.

Anonymous said...

Don't ask libs to read a book or a link, though. Total waste of keystrokes. They get their daily talking points and that's the extent of their quest for knowledge and truth.

Anonymous said...

If the Tea Party were about fiscal responsibility and proper oversight, and supported people who were competent to carry out those tasks, I would be a member.
Instead, your leadership has made it about birth control and re-instating the committees on "Un-American activities", homosexuality and the marriage act, immigration being about building the highest wall, crazy budget cuts without regarding revenues, and have supported some absolute nut cases for office.
You are more concerned with protecting Phil Robertson who is more than capable as he is proving to speak up for himself than with dealing with reducing the bureaucracy. Instead you do across the board cuts which include programs that work.
Find some competent leadership that doesn't emote but works, and I'll take you seriously. Until then, you are more a hindrance than a help!

Anonymous said...

7.23 you are wrong. The Republicans are much more scared of getting 'primaried out' by a Reich Wing nutjob. The Democrats laugh at people like you.

8.11 I find it comical that you insert the word "Patriots" after tea party. George Washington was a Patriot who faced certain death by hanging from the British if the revolution had failed. Your use of this word in this matter is blasphemy

The Murdock Party would be a more appropriate name!

TPs should expect to see a some irate Bostonians locking the Pearly Gates when they arrive!

Pugnacious said...

Cochran's latest yea vote for the NDAA is headed to Obama's desk. That may be just enough for the "undeciders" to hold their collective noses and cast their for McDaniels.

Anonymous said...

The RINOs don't care Pug because they are well trained for taking it in the bung.

Pugnacious said...

It wouldn't be a big surprise that Obama signs this bankrupting legislation tomorrow, 23Dec2013 ...the 100th anniversary of the passing of the Federal Reserve Act.

RINO'S win. Tea Partiers are laughed at.

If you care nothing about the State of Mississippi and its representation, then cast your vote for McDaniel. He is weak as water and as lost as a ball in high weeds! Furthermore, he is a duplicate of "do nothing" Bryant! They could pass for twins! Can you just imagine McDaniel attempting to fill Thad Cochran's shoes? That's absolutely laughable! There will come a time when that seat will become vacant and will have to be filled; when that time comes, Mississippi had better be looking for a candidate stronger than McDaniel!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
