While Phil caves, Chaney stands his ground

Keep in mind that Governor Phil Bryant only rescinded part of his executive order today. The Governor did leave intact the sections of the order that threw a few orders at Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney. The Commish fired right back at Governor Bryant today in this letter JJ obtained in a public records request:

This is nothing more than a junior pissing match among a bunch of young lawyers who just left Jos.A.Bank headed to Twin Peaks.

(And those receiving the letter will shudder and mutter, "Oh shit, this letter mentions MS Code sixteen times. We better scramble. Somebody order some sandwiches!")

This pissing match goes all the way to the top. KF may have mentioned this somewhere already, but don't forget that Chaneys team put a lot of resources into developing a state based healthcare exchange. When they submitted to Feds for approval, Bryant jumped in and said Chaney didn't have the authority to set up an exchange and that we were using the federal exchange. That's why Chaney has ( rightly) been so vigorous in defending his department's turf. So when Feel issues an order for the insurance department to do something ( even something they're already doing), Chaneys response is "Oh hell naw"

Well, the Gov's lawyers argued in court last week, that under that Governor must see all laws faithfully executed clause, he could tell every agency what to do. I'm sure Delbert, Tate, Cindy, and Stacy would all have a similar response.

As I've said before, Phil's an idiot! Always has been - even when he was auditor he wouldn't raise fees they charge state agencies for audits. His Deputy Auditor fought to increase fees a little at a time, but no Cowboy Phil was against raising fees. When Pickering became auditor, they raised the fees to cover the costs and keep employees from going to other agencies for more money. They lost a lot of good employees at the Audit Department under Coybow Phil because of his mentality - now he's taken it to a higher level - the Governor's office. God help us - we need someone to run against him in 2015!
What about Chaney for Governor!

There's infighting in Phil's office going on - Wicker's son-in-law is the main troublemaker among the staff. Phil can't decide what to do get rid of him and piss Phil off or continue to lose staff. In fact he was involved with the Oxford fight a few weeks ago. Comeon Phil, get rid of Kirk and get your office back on the right track before it's too late for you and Mississippi!

Chaney as Governor; PERISH THE THOUGHT! A terrible idea. There are others on the sideline wanting to run, I'm sure, but my money is on Tater running for Governor; another bad choice.

I watched Phil last night on the local news at that economic "Hobnob" farce show, whatever it is suppose to represent anyway. He was walking the stage with a microphone sounding just like a fake evangelical shister preacher, as usual for him. They then interviewed state senator "Kenny Wayne" from Jackson, and it dawned on me that those two share a lot of speech and personality traits.

Unfortunately, Mississippi is governed by the people left behind here that are a mirror image of the populace in general, what is left after decades of out-migration and leftover low wages and complete economic cronyism and thievery. It is very, very tragic...

Kirk is bad, and I like Phil.

He doesn't like to return phone calls, he doesn't like to socialize with the grunts of the party.

Kenny Wayne is from Canton, and he's the chair of the Legislative Black Caucus. He would be thrilled to know that you think he and Governor Bryant have anything in common besides both having all their limbs intact.

Eight statewide officials will run for reelection in 2015, and unless the Republicans can knock Jim Hood out of the AG's office all eight will be reelected. None of them will challenge each other in a primary. If Thad retires, which he almost certainly won't, and Delbert decides to run for the Senate seat then it might be a different Republican Secretary of State who could draw a primary challenge, but otherwise I don't think any substantive challengers will emerge for any of them. A lot of dominoes need to fall before 2015 is going to be interesting.

Did the voters who elected Bryant not see how this would end?? He has been in over his head since day one when he was elected as a state representative from Rankin County. Kirk Fordice, by his own admission, said that appointing him as State Auditor was one of the worst mistakes he made while in office. Bryant has climbed that political ladder until he has risen to his level of incompetence - Sad thing is, he still is not aware.

I still ask the question who is paying Corlew

Kingfish would check but he is still pissed at Jack Wilson.

By the way I heard it was Lucien that was pushing all this. The big guy has already lost once, what else is he going after. Chance he runs for insurance commish against a moderate Chaney? What are chance Feeel is pushing this.

Forget how Corlew is being paid - Is Phil going to report all the money HMA is spending on the false advertising promoting him as the one who is "saving" the hospitals? That definitely fits the reporting requirements but might make the gov look like he is indebted to HMA.

This entire issue is a TRAIN-WRECK!! What is wrong with the majority of voters in the State of Mississippi???? Why did you elect a clown like Bryant who is nothing but a joke??? It's not as if you did not have another choice. You had an intelligent, level-headed business man who had no obligations or ties to any entity or group and wanted to run this state like a business. In addition, he could speak the king's English and did not end every sentence with a preposition. Instead, you elected a dumb-ass, red-neck clown who cannot for the life of him, make an intelligent decision where the State of Mississippi is concerned and continues to stir controversy at every turn! (BCBS/HMA is just the latest in a long line)Do you just try to make Mississippi a laughing stock?? Well, if that was your intent - you succeeded - Congratulations!!!

Time to recall Governor Bryant before he causes more damage.

You think that's an honest description of Johnny Dupree?

I can see why there's no point listening to you.

He's talking about Dave Dennis, who would have made an excellent governor compared to what we are stuck with now.

Kingfish said...

Yes. Dave Dennis. Ran a weak-ass campaign. Didn't spend any money. Had stupid commercials. Didn't bother to introduce himself to the voters and didn't attack Phil until the very end. Was a joke of a campaign and frankly, one of the worst ones I've ever seen.

Anonymous said...

I agree Dennis was a bad campaigner, but still believe he would have been a much better governor.

Anonymous said...

Dave Dennis supporters should have known that a catholic from Alabama who graduated from Auburn and had a terrible campaign manager could not possible beat even a deputy sheriff for any state office no matter how smart he is or how dumb his opponent was. Just maybe the DMR investigation will unfold in a way that will cut a clear trail to Jackson. Everybody who knows Bill Walker would agree he is not going down alone. He will be negotiating with what he knows. Who will he give up? Will the investigation then be at the gates of other state agencies? Millions of dollars are involved. Politicians benefited.

Okay, let me make sure I understand this thought process: An intelligent, articulate, level-headed business man can not be elected to the Office of Governor in Mississippi if he is: (1) Catholic, (2) Originally from another state (never mind that he has lived in Mississippi and owned a business for over 30 years that provides over 100 jobs that contributes to the economy of our state, and (3) is conservative and does not spend the most money on his election campaign. With a mind-set like this, I believe I fully understand why a dumb-ass, red-neck was elected!

5:37 This is just how the voters in Ms. look at a candidate. Oh yea,I forgot he is from the Coast now and that also would keep Dennis out of the Ms. Govs mansion. Anybody that knew anything about Ms. politics should have realized this. I predicted the outcome the day he announced he entered the race.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
