Obamacare update. Pre-existing medical questions? Yes. Bad credit scores: No.

Heart attacks? Diabetes? Arthritis?  AIDs? No problem under Obamacare.  Got your '75 Eldorado repo'ed or stiffed C-Spire on that Iphone bill? Well, you are going to have a problem under Obamacare. WKMG (Orlando) reported:

Many people signing up for health care in Florida through the Affordable Care Act have been shocked when they have to give proof of their credit score before they finish the process. Anne Packham, one of many people licensed by the state to help people navigate the government's website, said on Tuesday that the credit check occurs so providers can make an educated decision about who to insure.

"If someone is defaulting on all of their bills they may not want to have them as part of their health plan," said Packham, the lead Navigator in Florida. Participants with low credit scores could end up paying higher premiums, according to Packham, who said that ultimately the insurance company makes the call.

The government website healthcare.gov has regularly been bogged down, oftentimes showing users a message saying, "We have a lot of visitors on the site." "We have a mixed bag right now," said Packham, referring to users being able to successfully navigate the site.

Obamacare does not consider bad credit scores to be a pre-existing condition.

Check out Maryland’s Obamacare exchange website---those signing up need to read that privacy policy….policy states all personal info will be kept confidential….but then there’s this, in that same privacy policy statement:

“The only exception to this policy is that we may share information provided in your application with the appropriate authorities for law enforcement and audit activities.”

appropriate authorities? Audits? Why would personal health information go to the “appropriate authorities”? and what triggers this?

Then there’s this: if you send them an email, involving private matters regarding finances, health history, etc, know ahead of time that those emails could become public records. oops.

No wonder Pelosi said "you'll have to pass the bill to find out what is in it", or some such. So these idiots signing up for obamacaid jump through all the hoops to find out they'll need their credit score. Then they have to cancel the application process, get their credit score and start all over. I say idiots, because that's the way guvmint plays people.

How are those with high deductibles, earning minimum wage, going to meet their share? The obamacaid is enough to get them admitted to medical assistance, then state Medicaid would pay, or the entity provider would eat the difference, and/or increase billing to offset the loss. Same ole Same ole.

I'm not clear how a bad credit score has anything to do with whether to insure someone. Let alone, how many people even know their credit score? What Equifax lobbyist got THAT included in the final bill?

Anonymous said...

the people signing up for government insurance are those most likely to have credit challenges. but those with bad credit are also the most likely to get federal supplements to pay for the insurance, making them most likely to pay some or most of the premium, so the whole discussion is bizarre.

Ah. Google suggests there is less than meets the eye:

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/10/09/florida-tv-station-tells-viewers-that-credit-score-effects-obamacare-premiums/

But a representative from HealthCare.gov told Raw Story that the credit check during the application process was only used to verify identities and had no bearing on insurance premiums.

“Basically the eligibility requirements for keeping your monthly premiums low is based on your income,” the representative explained.

oh, well if a gov representative said it, then it must be so....

Y'all should be thrilled that the Feds are privatizing the task of ascertaining Joe Blow's income.

Keep in mind it was the navigator who provided the quote. Its a good question worth asking and someone should ask the insurance companies directly

So let's see if I've got this straight. They say the credit check is only to verify identification? Don't you have to provide your Social Security number to get your credit score? Don't you have to provide your SS# during the application process? Sounds like bullshit to me.

I trust there are enough lawyers on this website to answer my question: 'Since when did it become legal for anyone to access my credit score WITHOUT my asking to buy anything or giving them specific permission to check it?' Looking into what costs would be for my fool husband (who voted for -0-) when his employer-provided insurance stops (as it surely will)- I finally navigated partway through the Obamacare process. I was mighty surprised when it displayed specific purchases of mine - including make, model, and date of purchase of my car - and told me to check boxes to 'verify my identity'. I had NOT elected to provide my SS# because website stated that was optional. I had NOT stated I wanted to buy any insurance at that time. What right do they have to access my credit report?

Kingfish, I don't know if you or anyone else on this blog, has ever heard of Michael Connely from Texas. He is a retired constitutional lawyer that now teaches.
Anyway, he has read every word of the ObamaCare bill and he has some very interesting things to say about it. He explains how a chunk of the amendments to the Constitution are done away with by this bill. Everyone should just read it and make your own judgement.
And, by the way, his whole analysis was posted on facebook. Myself, and quite a few of my friends shared it with others day before yesterday, when we all got on facebook yesterday morning, it had disappeared from everyone's timeline??????

Anonymous said...

well, as far as I am concerned you douche bags with bad credit should be held accountable.

Douche yourself 1:47PM - my credit is perfect. My question about access by an entity to credit reports (though you are obviously not an intelligent enough liberal to answer it) has nothing to do w/score.

Anonymous said...

One's credit score would affect the plan they should select.
You must have some mechanism to prevent two people signing up under the same SS number and some way to keep people from signing up for plans they can't afford because they are in such debt they can't pay their existing obligations.

all the while forcing them to sign up and pay. cool little extortion scam

Barry said it isn't about what we can afford, it is the healthcare we deserve.

Of course he didn't mention at the time that he was going to f'ck it up royally in order to screw Americans over.

The Kenyan has gone bonafide psycho. Now we learn that the National Park Service has removed handles from water spigots along the Chesapeake and Ohio canal where bikers and joggers exercise just to ensure people don't get any water from them.

Stay the course Republicans. The toddler in our Spite House has gone from temper tantrum to full meltdown. It is all going to end very badly for Democrats.

I enrolled on the site, but have not progressed to the point of getting a quote for insurance. Mi did not provide my SSN. To verify my identity, the website asked me questions like was it true that I lived at 1243 Main Street, Clinton, from 1989 to 1995, etc...

I got bumped from the site when it tried to finalize the confirmation of my identity.

Blue Cross does not check credit scores BUT they are not participating in the Mississippi exchange either.

Maxine Waters has apparently been muzzled since she let it slip that Obama is building a massive, all-inclusive database to leave to the Democrat party for future political use. This may explain many of the suspicious features reported in various states so far.

questions have been asked about credit checks, etc. here are the disclaimers you must agree to in order to create an application from Healthcare.gov, for Mississippi residents:

We’ll keep your information private as required by law. Your answers on this form will only be used to determine eligibility for health coverage or help paying for coverage. We’ll check your answers using the information in our electronic databases and the databases of other federal agencies. If the information doesn’t match, we may ask you to send us proof.

We won’t ask any questions about your medical history. Household members who don’t want coverage won’t be asked questions about citizenship or immigration status.

Important: As part of the application process, we may need to retrieve your information from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Social Security, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and/or a consumer reporting agency. We need this information to check your eligibility for coverage and help paying for coverage if you want it and to give you the best service possible. We may also check your information at a later time to make sure your information is up to date. We’ll notify you if we find something has changed.

1:39 om Catch up. The US Supreme Court which is conservative has already ruled on the constitutionality.

I read the Affordable Care Act as well so that , unlike those commenting here , I wouldn't have FOX or CNN or some yahoo in Texas, none of whom clearly haven't read it, tell me what to think!

And, guess what, it didn't take that damn long to read ! And, I didn't have staff or clerks to read it for me nor was it my JOB to know what it says!

hey 8:08, zippity-doo-dah. give yourself a cookie.

10-10-13; 8:08 - Was there anything in the Affordable Care Act about giving businesses and unions a 1 year delay or an exemption from the plan? Was there anything in the plan that gives POTUS unilateral authority to change the Act "at will"? Was there anything in the plan that exempted the POTUS and his family? Was there anything in the plan that provided for the GSA to supplement members of Congress health benefits due to the increased premiums associated with the plan?

This is the most corrupt administration in the history of this country, bar none. Hopefully, the mindless media drones will soon wake up and report the truth.

ROFLMAO. But, of course, we should inexplicably listen to an anonymous Obama water carrier.

Surely, somewhere in the Constitution, a Presidential recall vote is provided for.

9:42 Sadly, no. Just impeachment.

8:08 "I wouldn't have FOX or CNN or some yahoo in Texas, none of whom clearly haven't read it, tell me what to think!"

In my grade school we were taught to avoid poor grammar and double (or triple) negatives in sentences, because otherwise no one would be able to understand what we were trying to communicate. You don't seem to share those concerns. "None of whom clearly haven't read it"? Does that mean that some of them have read it?

Also, the Supreme Court also ruled on the constitutionality of Dred Scott. Is the SCOTUS as infallible as the Pope when he speaks ex cathedra?

Anonymous said...

9:25 am You shouldn't listen to anyone else, including the " anti-everything-Obama" people. You should read and study yourself so you wouldn't be so easily manipulated.

I am at a loss to understand how anyone can be blindly partisan in the face of such overwhelming evidence that all political parties have lied to their base and made decisions and mistakes which literally cost Americans their lives. A rational person should know that political parties are not infallible and don't attract only saints.

Your Dred Scott analogy is silly 11:10 AM given that this SCOTUS is hardly predisposed to support a liberal agenda while the Dred Scott SCOTUS was predisposed to rule as they did.

I do ,however, thank you for editing my remarks. I was in a hurry and didn't take the time to edit myself. I, too, learned better in grade school and managed to get post graduate degrees despite my poor typing skills and that I sometimes change sentences in the middle without looking back at where I began while writing. I also don't use spell check for blogging.

You still managed to understand my meaning, though, didn't you?

9:04 am No, there wasn't anything about a delay. That is about implementation and not a change in the Act. You should be insulted that your party imagines you so lacking in knowledge of government and how it works so as to make you think the delay is significant in the scheme of things. Delays in the nuts and bolts of implementation of legislation happen routinely as Congress doesn't administrate, they legislate. Such delays are seldom noticed but desperation causes the desperate to make mountains of molehills.

There is no question the Obama administration deserves an enormous amount of criticism for administrative inefficiency and errors.

There is no question that Obamacare needs to undergo some changes that Congress will have to address. Obama, however, didn't write the Act. He took a bill already in existence to Congress. It is a bill for which Bob Dole should get credit or blame and that has been modified along the way including by Romney who used the Dole model bill in Massachusetts.

The bill is not the idea of some socialist but rather a way to try to appease the insurance and medical industries who hate the single payer option.

It is an attempt to try to deal with medical costs in a broken health care system. Yes, I know some of you don't think it's broken because you don't want to believe it. But, again see how we are falling behind while our costs are soaring.

Response to 8:08-
9:04 am "No, there wasn't anything about a delay. - That is about implementation and not a change in the Act. "

Convenient words for you to spin the acts of the Presidential lawbreaker.

"You should be insulted that your party imagines you so lacking in knowledge of government and how it works so as to make you think the delay is significant in the scheme of things. Delays in the nuts and bolts of implementation of legislation happen routinely as Congress doesn't administrate, they legislate. Such delays are seldom noticed but desperation causes the desperate to make mountains of molehills."

For the record, the Republican party is NOT my party.

"There is no question the Obama administration deserves an enormous amount of criticism for administrative inefficiency and errors."

Who is going to do this? The Media? The Senate? The Supreme Court? – Your response is just another perfunctory answer from an elite socialist.

Yes – the HC system is broken, but putting the Government in charge is idiotic, wasteful, and will do nothing but exacerbate the problem.

I apologize for wasting your valuable time.

Good bye House Repubs from Mississippi.

We see that your new 'idea' is to RAISE the debt ceiling, fully fund gov, absolutely NOTHING about defunding Ocare despite the horrors that are all over the internet.

You boys are about as strong as a wet paper towel. I guess you needed to raise the debt ceiling cause you needed more earmarks for your friends.

So thanks, guys, nothing like our reps telling us to bend over, shut up, and take it. And if the dems think this is great, don't. the reason I despise what our Reps are doing is because it is straight out of the Dem handbook.

Nunnelee, Harper, Palazzo, Cochram, Wicker:

You are pathetic in your non representation for Mississippians. You all have decided that you can continually lie to us and either (a) you think we are stupid enough to believe you or (b) you are stupid enough to believe your own press. Unlike you all, we can actually read the laws and the constitution and understand them. So you either (a) cant read or (b) you can read and simply find that screwing Americans is the better option for you. And the vile you have heaved upon members of your own party who did something you had no interest in doing--listening to the American people--is repulsive.

Since you did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help stop Obamacare when you had everything you needed to do so for the last couple of years, may you all be blessed with the same hardships you have heaved upon us.

Nunnelee, Harper, Palazzo, Cochran (2014) and Wicker (2018)—may you all be replaced with someone who actually works FOR the people of this state. I’ll be making contributions to Ted Cruz and Mike Lee. I won’t be pulling the old lever for you boys ever again. And if you think this will all blow over, you’re wrong because we will be living the nightmare that YOU all allowed to happen. and I'll be happy to explain it to anyone who is confused on who to support.

Its dumbfounding that our state has absolutely no conservative representation.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
