Wow.

Can't believe this material went out:

Update: Campaign managers for the two candidates posted these comments:

The flyer did not come from our campaign.
All material we release is "Paid for by Friends of Lee Yancey"

George, do you and Lee disavow the message of the Flyer? Please do so publicly here on JJ. In other words, give the campaigns position on the flyers. Thanks.

Why did someone try to obscure the signatures of Trent Lott and Gregg Harper?

Yancey is looking desperate.

Kingfish said...

So if it truly is for Yancey, why X out his face? Big mistake as its the first impression one gets.

KaptKangaroo said...

This is pretty bad from a PR standpoint. Confusing the issues between images and messaging while sending the clear message via the images. Even the writing is so unclear, it makes it difficult to read so you don't.

I would guess this didn't come from Yancey. It is either really bad PR or it is a negative ad.

Shadowfax said...

Are there other options?

Anonymous said...

It says Friends of Lee Yancey. That is his campaign. Stupid piece.

Anonymous said...

KF, is this a little "roper Doper" what s your opinion

Kingfish said...

I think its a really bad piece. Came from "Friends of Yancey" but its so damn bad in terms of how its written and portrayed you wonder who does it really help.

Anonymous said...

I like Lee more, but this piece would make me vote for Lynn. Maybe the "Elitists" have a point?

Anonymous said...

Yancey must be mighty worried about turnout in Rankin County. He needs an above average turnout and has to win there big. Otherwise he'll be looking for Uncle Phil to give him a job ... as a bureaucrat.

Shadowfax said...

Who is 11:54 referring to as elitist? Surely not the candidate from his dynasty stable Barbour has shifted around from agency to agency to agency top spots.

Anonymous said...

Looks like amateur hour is upon us. Lee's lack of a solid experienced organization, teamed his own lack of experienced having only run one other time for the state senate has caught up with him. The inmates have taken over the asylum.

Anonymous said...

When you have Roger Davis advising you 7:02 what do you expect?

Anonymous said...

What do you expect - he has Lisa Shoemaker running his campaign!

Shadowfax said...

So, now it matters how often one has run? Maybe one of the anons can explain that.

With a friend like Haley, Fitch really didn't have to run too often. Barbour slid her into an executive job at Employment Security, then into a similar post at Welfare, then into the top spot over at the Personnel Board. If the State Treasurer was an appointed position, she'd already be in that one too.

When your careet-sponsor owns the stable and the track and the feed trough, you don't have to trot out too often.

Trying to understand the long-term Mississippi GOP strategy that includes "Rankin County Against THE WORLD."

Being from former (1 term) state senator Yancy's district, I'm voting against him because as a state senator he did nothing. Also, if his only qualifications seem to be he is a "conservative, Christian, Republican", based on my age, length of membership in the Church, and length of time as a Republican (my first vote was for Richard Nixon), I'm twice as qualified as Yancy. At least Fitch knows where the office is and what goes on in it.

"Paid for by Friends of Lee Yancey"

"Distributed by Friends of Lee Yancey"

Very clever! I wonder if Lee came up with that little twist himself?

Anonymous said...

It's not from Yancey. It's from some AHOLE trying to discredit him. Notice the "distributed" instead of paid for. That way they can't get sued.

Anonymous said...

What's the difference between "vote for me because I'm Black" and "vote for me because I'm from Rankin County"? Neither is a viable reason to vote for someone.

Sounds like the same black helicopters that regularly circle over Fondren are now buzzin' the Yancey campaign HQ.

Anonymous said...

A lot of the Fondren liberals are supporting Lee because they think Connie Moran will have an easier time beating him just off credentials. Honestly, you put Moran's credentials against Lee and a whole lot of Republicans might just cross over!

Anonymous said...

I will once again ask the campaign if they didn't put it out...it had all their information all over...does Lee disavow the message on the Flyer? Simple question.

Hayes, do you have a job? Do you have a life?

Anonymous said...

The lack of a concise and clear answer from Lee's campaign truly disappointing.

In addition, this whole ordeal back fired on Lee and instantly made up the minds of the undecided voters casting votes in tomorrow's run-off.

Vote Fitch. At least she kept her word about running a clean campaign.

7:16 Do you have a life? Or a job?

Hayes is a lobbyist. Google it, genius.

After all the results are in, will your candidate endorse Lynn in the general election? You may want to start thinking along those lines (and start looking for a new job).

Is this the Yancey flyer that was placed on car windshields in the parking lot of Pinelake Church on Sunday morning?

LCB said...

Voting Finch, now more than ever. Hopefully the Pinelake quip is a joke.

WJTV is reporting the Yancey flyer distribution at Pinelake Church.

Mr. Dent seems to be marching to Haley's tune (again). I just can't figure why they think Miz Fitch is deserving of political appointment after political appointment. That she meets the qualifications for the office of Treasure is undisputed; however, why has the Barbour-Dent crowd groomed her for years for every job in town? Maybe her daddy has some old Yazoo County money (or debts to call in).

Wade said...

I hate politics! For the most part, the winning politician is the one who can tell the most people what they want to hear, whether it's true or not, combined with the public perception that they are the lesser of two or three evils! As for those stupid flyers that go out, I read those about as often as I read the side of the tylenol bottle.

Anonymous said...

8:24 - 3:49, you won't see H Barbour appointing Fitch to anything now - her 'appointment by the Governor' was due to the Governor's Chief of Staff at the time. She 'worked' for Charles Williams when he was Chairman of Ways and Means when he was a Dem. And it was Williams that is responsible for her job at Employment Security and her move to Personnel. Now with him gone, don't think you would see Barbour giving her an appointment.

Thing is, Barbour wouldnt be giving Yancy an appointment to anything either. He was more of a thorn in the side than a supportive Senator during his long tenure in the Senate.

When you download the document and view it the signatures are more clear. Compare it with Gregg Harper's official signature. They are no where near the same. If this was placed in the mail, I hope it is fully investigated and prosecuted. I can believe both "campaigns" had nothing to do with it. But someone did it. And maybe someone in one of the campaigns knew about it.

My car was in the parking lot at Pinelake for three hours on Sunday, but no flyer was placed on my windshield.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
