Sheffield crime

This email is circulating in NE Jackson. JJ confirmed its authenticity.

"Hi friends,
Not to freak anyone out, but PLEASE PLEASE be careful, especially if you live in Jackson. Please feel free to pass along to any of your parents/family as well.
To make a long story short..

My parents house on Sheffield got broken into Saturday night in Jackson. Mom and xxxx were here in Destin with me, so it was just my Dad there. He goes to sleep early. Sometime between 10pm-6am, armed men entered the house by jumping over our 8 foot backyard fence and coming into our patio doors into the morning room. They stole the flatscreen in our den, and then (GET THIS)... came into my Dad's room. They took his shorts with his wallet off of the bed WHERE HE WAS ASLEEP!! When they realized that the keys to the car weren't in there, they CAME BACK and took his jeans that were laying on the floor and stole his big set of keys. They stole his phone, his SUV, and all his cash/credit cards. They stole the keys to his Lexus sedan, but didn't steal it. So, yesterday Dad changed the house locks, and sent Martin back to Oxford with his car and everything valuable we own in it: guns, china, jewelry, furs, etc. So in case they came back to get the Lexus, it was gone.
Turns out they stole 3 other cars in our neighborhood that night, and tried to steal the xxxxx's (xxxxxx's parents) It was unlocked and all his cash was stolen, but apparently they couldnt get the truck to start or something.
Police think it is an organized crime ring out of Rankin County, and they are hitting Northeast Jackson neighborhoods.
It's a blessing and definitely a God thing that Dad didnt wake up because we feel like they were armed and would have killed him. And it's a blessing Mom wasn't there because she is such a light sleeper that I know she would have woken up, and who knows what they would have done to her. It is sooooo scary. Dad has started sleeping with a gun by the bed, and police (They came in to dust for fingerprints yesterday) told him to shoot to kill if they came back on his property. They are still investigating... Havent found any leads yet.
PLEASE, PLEASE be careful. Lock all your doors, set alarms, whatever you have to do to stay safe. They haven't caught the people, and obviously they are still out there, and aren't scared to break into a house to get what they want. Please, everyone BE CAREFUL!"

I'm sure the Bugle will preach to us about crime dropping 7% and we are just being hysterical.

Apparently no alarm system at this house.

you know you guys (media outlets) make it awfully hard to sell a house in this area when you are constantly bringing up the same crime that has been going on in this area since i can remember.

one other thing: if doors were locked and alarms were activated your chances go down dramaticly of this stuff happening

sincerely,

Actually, it has become rampant in that area over the past few months. There was a meth lab in that area that was raided 2 times in the last 6 months! The dealers just squatted in an empty house.

Also, I know of 3 other houses were broken into in the last 2 months. And multiple car break-ins on the same streets during that time too.

I grew up there, and still have a house there, and I KNOW it has never been this bad. Don't blame the media.

If you can't sell your house, perhaps you should start a neighborhood watch and get involved in your community. Get proactive.

why does anyone still live in Jax???

Easter morning about 4am there was another armed home invasion in North Jackson. Single mother (thank goodness her daughers had spent the night at their grandmother's) woke to find a man in her bedroom stealing her TV while she had been asleep in the bed. A second armed man was also in the house. When she woke, she grabbed her cellphone and the intruder threatened her--and the second man came in and put a gun in her face. They left with the TV and a few other items and broke into her car as well. They broke in through the locked front door using some sort of tool. By the grace of God she was unhurt physically but of course scarred mentally forever. The police said they got "good prints" but who knows if they will follow up on it as they should or not. The police also told her to use the Castle Law to her full advantage.

If the Dad was asleep, how did he know the burglers were armed?

Anonymous said...

If the dad was asleep, how does anyone know that "armed men entered the house"? How was the sequence of events recorded? While not out of the norm for the area, I'm just wondering how so much detail was observed.

JPD officer told me the EXACT same thing few weeks back. Shoot to kill.

People, if you ,live in Jackson, GET AN ALARM SYSTEM AND USE IT. The cost is very low when you consider it would prevent any instance of an intruder entering your home while you and your loved ones are there, since I have never heard of a burglar who hung around once the alarm is going off. Failure to take this precaution is just plain stupid, and I am tired of reading about people who live in Jackson and fail to take this most basic self-protection step.

Anonymous said...

I would also like to know how it was know the intruders were armed if the guy was asleep? Also, why would an organized crime ring from Rankin county be operating in north Jackson (unless it is due to the poor police work and a lower chance of being caught)? Also, that must have been one loaded down Lexus heading up to Oxford. If the story was accurately re-told, sounds like dad's pants may have possibly been jacked by someone other than an armed intruder......

"why does anyone still live in Jax???"

Well, reading the email, I'd guess part of the reason is because the organized crime rings live in Rankin County.

My 1971 high school class is having a reunion in Jackson this summer. I had thought about going, but sanity won out. There is no way I would spend one night in that cess pool of a city. I have a concealed permit, so I would be safe, I just don't want to have to shoot several thugs just to go to a reunion. Haven't been to Jackson in 15 years and never will again. When Jackson let the thugs and criminals run the city, it all went to hell.

Anonymous said...

Maybe you graduated from a high school that is still safe....oh, wait...

Anonymous said...

11:03 raises a very interesting point, and it ties in with the suspicions raised by someone who claims he could detect that someone was armed while he was asleep. hhhmmmmm.....

Anonymous said...

@10:27--she is renting a house somewhere off of Meadowbrook Rd. I'm not sure exactly where. I'll ask at church tomorrow night and find out.

Curt Crowley said...

11:33: "I just don't want to have to shoot several thugs just to go to a reunion."

Amen 11:33. Just yesterday I had to empty 2 mags just to make it from my apartment to my office a half-block away. Took another 3 rounds from my back-up piece just to get on the elevator. Damn ammo costs are ridiculous.

Good call on staying away from Jackson.

Anonymous said...

If you love Jackson so much, selfish S.O.B., why would you be selling your house?

Anonymous said...

And people wonder why I keep an AK-47 with a full 30 round clip and a riot shotgun in my bedroom and a locked and loaded .45 automatic by my nightstand. Burglars beware! Some of us know how to use firearms and fully intend to exercise our rights under the Castle law if given the need.

Bang, Bang, Bang on Sheffield Drive.

I would also like to know how Dad knew that the intruders were armed and that they CAME BACK to get his jeans when he was supposedly slept through the whole ordeal. That makes no sense.

It's a statistical fact that having an alarm system on your house drastically cuts down the odds that your home will be targeted. I pay about $35/mo to Pennington & Trim and recently set up cell phone back-up through them for about an additional $15/mo. If you don't get the cell phone back-up, all they have to do is cut your phone line. The alarm would still go off but the company that dispatches the police would not recieve the alarm alert. I have always had an alarm, even when I lived in Flowood some years back. I now live in NE Jackson and a few years ago, about two nights before Christmas, my across the street neighbor was burglarized....while they were home! He fell asleep on the couch, his wife was upstairs asleep in their bed and his two children were asleep upstairs in their room. The wife awoke while the S.O.B was in their room and he saw her and fled. He knew the man was asleep on the couch because he had to go right by him to access the rest of the house. He got in through a side door on the house that can't be seen due to a fence. Miraculously, the wife didn't scream, the thug didn't shoot anyone, and thankfully, the children did not wake. Amazingly, to this day, those kids do not know anything about it. So why did this thug pick their house and not mine? There's a pretty good chance it's because I have an alarm and he didn't. I have a nice blue and white sign out front in my flower bed that shows my house is protected by Pennington & Trim Alarms. The next day, my neighbor asked me about my alarm system and if I would recommend them. I highly recommend Pennington & Trim! They are locally owned and I have been with them for years and am extremely satisfied. If you live in Jackson and do not have an alarm to protect yourself and your family, you need to have your head examined....because you are just asking for it these days!

You can always count on the 'blame the victim ' crowd to rush the stage here at JJ despite Kingfish's consistently solid efforts to corroborate.

If one must have an alarm system armed at all times in order to achieve even a modicum of personal and property safety then Jackson is irretrievably lost.

Anonymous said...

3:59
Just how long have you been working for Pennington & Trim. Mighty nice of JJ to give ya'll all that free advertising.

Anonymous said...

4:10
We must be looking at different pages. Nobody "blamed the victim" for anything, just wondered how all that detail was gotten when the only person in the house "was asleep".

Wade said...

Who's blaming the victim? I prefer not to be a victim, therefore, I take steps that both logic and statistics show to be prudent! If someone breaks into your house, it's the person who broke in who is to blame and nobody else. However, the fact remains that without a security system, you are giving the criminal what he percieves to be an increased opportunity and advantage. Two houses sitting side by side....one has an alarm with signs posted and the other does not. Which one does logic tell you that the bad guy is going to choose?

Anonymous said...

Dude got rolled by a hooker.

Wade said...

Hey 3:59.....I work in the oil and gas business but.....thanks for playing. By the way, the name is Wade....just like the post said!

Wade said...

4:51.....ROFLMAO....surely he would not be so stupid as to have a hooker visit his home. However, that would explain the mystery of all the detail that a person who was supposedly asleep provided....lol

Anonymous said...

I find this hard to believe, at least as told here. If the Dad was asleep, how would he know WHAT or WHO was there and if they had guns or not?

Makes no sense.

And as for Rankin County ring, I doubt it. If this were true, it's the thugs from the apartments who have also held up the JA students, I'd bet. The JPD just wants to shift blame off them.

Anonymous said...

how do they know it was more than one intruder? or that it occurred between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. if dad goes to bed at 8 p.m.? how do they know the residence of the intruder(s) if they don't know the identity? maybe there's some truth to the email, but we'll never know given all of the bullshit that was added to it in order to make it a better story. typical.

'Dad has started sleeping with a gun by the bed, and police (They came in to dust for fingerprints yesterday) told him to shoot to kill if they came back on his property.'

Why else would you shoot . . . to scare or wound? If you are going to shoot, it should always be to kill! The other concerning thing here is that if the father never woke up during multiple visits to his bedroom, NOW, if the intruders didn't bring their own gun they can just use the fathers'! It should be loaded and ready to use, but secured where only those who you want to have access to it can get to it in a hurry! If all doors locked and an alarm system was armed and you sleep with the bedroom door(s) locked then you might have time to wake and get to your gun safely, otherwise, pretending to be asleep might be the better choice. Glad none of the good guys where hurt or worse!

Forgot. According to the Jackson Free Press , there is no crime in Fondren .

Also, ( According to the Jackson Free Press ) there are no crime issues within the City of Jackson
or Hinds County . What few crimes that do exist , are the fault of the Exodus of both Black & White Jacksonians
that have finally realized that there is no hope for their future (or safety) with the current city & County administrations.

I tried for years to be so called "Pro Jack" , but I've realized it's a loosing battle.

The "King Edward " does not a new city make.

Damn I hope someone can understand this basic fact.

"why does anyone still live in Jax??"

Well, for one thing it's difficult to buy a new house when you can't sell your old one. For another thing, a house in Jxn might buy you a couple of bedrooms in Madison.

Anonymous said...

Wade, it might benefit you to shop around, based on the price you pay.

Anonymous said...

What are you going to do Wade when the random and not-so-random drive-by shootings migrate from other parts of Jackson into your neighborhood? Does your vaunted alarm system stop bullets? What will you do then? Make your house a compound surrounded with 8 foot high concrete block walls?

Wade said...

Hey 9:03.....nice change of direction! I don't believe we were talking about drive-by shootings now were we? Obviously somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. My guess would be you don't have an alarm system and don't care for my take that not having one in 2011, particularly in Jackson, makes you a target that a neon sign could not announce any louder. It's amazing that people want to dispute facts with bullshit!

Anonymous said...

Drive-by shootings? Seriously, 9:03? Methinks your slope just might be a bit too slippery...

I am as Pro Jack as anyojne can be, but they are coming. The crime in the formerly white, now black neighborhoods is soaring (McCleod School, across from Electric Cowboy, Lochwood Apartments and neighborhoods behind it, apartments across from Northpark Mall, aprtments across from JA, on and on. When neighborhoods go black, crime soars.

Jackson is toast. It is a goner. A 14.3% increase in the sales tax is going to send more small businesses with their tax revenues to the exits and consumers to the surrounding cities for their purchases. You can't sell a house in NE Jackson because there is too much supply and anemic demand. The smart sellers are taking what they can get and leaving the rest to hold the bag.

You seem to be making the argument that signs are the deterrent not the alarm. Or maybe you are making the argument that the perps are so stupid that whenever and wherever they see a sign they believe it no questions asked. Either way your experience is a positive one but an inconvenient fact remains that homes and businesses with alarms are burglarized.

Anonymous said...

If you don't want an alarm, you can do what I do and collect all the dogs your crappy neighbors abuse. I wouldn't say that it is cheaper, though.

Jackson is a dying city. It needs to be euthanized and get it over with. Get the bulldozers out and just flatten it. Then the animals running it can slither off to wherever it is slime finally settles.

Anonymous said...

If you flatten Jackson where will all of the people in the suburbs work. All you have to do is get on any interstate at 5 and see everybody leaving to their suburb. Mayor Mary somehow can't supply everybody in Madison with a job. Also, I can't tell you how many people I know who drive their kids to private schools in Jackson. If everything is so great in the suburbs then use the schools. You are paying taxes for those schools. If Jackson dies then I guarantee you the whole metro area will suffer.

"Organized crime ring out of Rankin County?" Sure, and it could be an organized crime ring out of Jackson, or maybe even a gang of thugs who live off North State Street in the Fondren area, too. The truth is JPD doesn't have a clue who is breaking into these houses in NE Jackson and stealing cars. If you live in this area, get a gun and learn how to use it, and if you are waiting for the JPD to solve these crimes and lock up the people responsible, you are going to be waiting a long, long time.

I have noticed a lot of youtube vids of criminals being criminals. I think we need to start recording and posting our use of the castle doctrine. Maybe even start castledoctrine.com where you can upload videos of people shooting intruders. There could even be contests for people to use creativity. Have some people over to your NE Jackson home...dress everyone up like furniture...give everyone a shotgun and wait for the intruders. WHen the intruders are unplugging the TV, the furniture comes to life and the sounds of blasts are like poppers at a surprise party for the thugs. Imagine the looks on the criminals' doped up faces!!

In the words of Luther Campbell, “this is something I shouldn’t say, but I’m gonna say this s–t anymotherf–kinway.”

It appears we now have the Jackson bashers in full effect in the comments to this post. No doubt a bunch a Rankin-Madison residents looking down upon our rotten cesspool with a faux-aristocratic, yet patronizing, sympathy.

While we may have an abundance of “thugs” here in Jackson, I prefer our criminals to those I’ve encountered in Rankin and Madison. The most common criminal I have encountered in Rankin and Madison has been perjuring cops; brazen criminals who commit their crimes and then freely admit to same. Then there’s the certain Bush League justice and municipal court judges who violate their oaths and routinely violate the law. What makes these criminals dangerous is because they commit their crimes for no reason other than “because they can.” I will take our Jackson thugs any day of the week over these Rankin-Madison criminals. At least our criminals have enough honor to give their victims a fighting chance.

Also, at least as to Rankin, there are things going on that *should* be crimes. For example, it should be a crime to be arguing about prohibition 78 years after the 18th Amendment was repealed.

And then there are the schools. Unlike Rankin County, Jackson schools are relatively safe and reasonably drug-free.

With all the problems and invidious criminals lurking in the suburbs, I feel much safer with the in-your-face criminal thugs we have in Jackson.

Instead of cybertrashing Jackson, how about you run outside, straighten up the truck nuts, and try to figure out how to solve the problems in your own community?

Anonymous said...

Curt, Most of the time I see what you are saying. Not this time. As someone who has lived in both Jackson and Madison County, and loves them both in different ways, I can tell you one of the big differences in the various "thugs" (your word) is that they know when they commit their crimes in Madison County, shit-fire is going to rain down on them, whereas in Jackson the basic attitude is that a victim will not see their attacker, robber, etc pursued mercilessly until they are caught and punished. This is a big problem.

Wade said...

10:45.....I understand what you are saying. I never said that homes and businesses with alarms are never burglarized. My point was, homes and businesses that have an alarm system and signs promoting the fact that they are protected by such, are burglarized less often. It's a statistical fact, plain and simple.....end of story! I'm not speaking a foreign language here. I don't understand how I can make it any more simple to understand.

Anonymous said...

I think the writer of the email learned after the robbery that the criminal was armed. I think there are two teenagers who are responsible for 90% of the crime in the Sheffield area. James and Israel (the little one) commit most the crime over there. Word on the street is that James was arrested after this crime, and he had a gun on him. I think he had stolen a few cars that evening.

I think these two kids are about 15. I don't think they go to school. If you drive by JA during the week, you will usually see one of them on a stolen bike. Obviously, no one is concerned about these kids not going to school or starting a career in crime early. We are in trouble...

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
