Rumor mill update

Time to update the rumor mill just a little.

Delbert? Who knows. He is keeping it very close to the vest.

Henry Knox Ross, Mayor of Pelahatchie, is seriously considering running for Auditor but it has apparently come out that he voted in the Democratic primary in the last Congressional race. Kind of hard to run as a Republican when you are voting for Democrats. Wait, never mind. Didn't one candidate in 2008 do the same thing?

Lee Yancey is going to run for Treasurer. I'm told this is a sure thing. He'll be a strong candidate among the rumored field: Russ Latino, Lynn Fitch, and others. Mr. Yancey, who has blogged on this site before, will have something the others will not have: a base of Rankin and Madison Counties. Its a small base but still a base nonetheless.

AG? DPS Commissioner Steve Simpson is still da man to run against Jim Hood. Anyone notice his personal appearances in the latest DUI-prevention ads on tv?

Lieutenant Governor. Mr. Reeves is all in as is Billy Hewes. Although Stacy Pickering has not announced, numerous sources have informed JJ he is running for Lieutenant Governor.

Apparently WFMN owner Steve Davenport is so gung-ho for Phil, the guests are more strictly screened. Political columnist and lobbyist Brian Perry is supposedly not allowed to appear on the network right now because he is working for the Dennis campaign. Sources have also informed JJ Delbert was not allowed on the show for a very short time but they quickly saw the errors of their ways on that one.

Add one more name to the list of possibilities for Jeff Weill's City Council seat if he wins: Austin Barbour. Yup, politics is in the blood and he is rumored to be looking at that seat if it becomes available. Now for the disclaimer:

These statements are all unconfirmed rumors and should be treated as such.

I also noticed Hood taking the opportunity for some free (or taxpayer funded) tv face time with his "anti-counterfeit products" commercial.

Interesting. I believe most of the rumors you posted are going to pan out, with Delbert being the only one who might see the sense in staying where he is. 2011 is going to be chaotic for the Republicans, even if Delbert decides not to run for governor, but as long as they don't go too negative during the primaries I think they have a good chance to capture all eight state offices. The good news is that all the candidates are decent and will do a good job if elected, so the voters really can't lose.

Bozo the Clown could get elected to represent Ward 1 in Jackson and still deliver the same results the last 3 occupants of the seat have delivered. Which is NOTHING.

Anonymous said...

Big Bozo currently represents Ward 3.

Anonymous said...

Delbert claims he is staying put.

Kingfish said...

Simpson is not beating hood.

Anonymous said...

I think Hood has that spot as long as he wants it.

bill said...

You know, Kingfish, I reluctantly have to agree with you today, but there's a lot of time between now and November 2011. Who knows what will change in the minds of the voters, and therefore the candidates, between now and then? Hood may decide to jump into the governor's race, although I've heard he's specifically ruled that out. I think of all the statewide offices, the AG is the one that's most likely to elect a Democrat, but if Hood moves on all bets are off.

I voted in the Democrat primary, and I'm a Republican. Why?? I voted for the lamest person I could find to oppose Gregg Harper.

Anonymous said...

Lee Yancey will obliterate Russ Latino and Lynn Fitch.

Anonymous said...

I wish someone stronger than Simpson would run. He has enough issues with his current job. Hosemann would be wise to stay put, and Pickering probably would too.

Curt Crowley said...

How could one miss the taxpayer-funded Steve Simpson for AG commercials? He's the big rotund guy standing in between a bunch of exceptionally fit State Troopers. He stands out like the proverbial turd in a punchbowl.

Anonymous said...

Simpson- another fat, out of shape candidate/officeholder.

Anonymous said...

What we need is more candidates sporting mullets.

Anonymous said...

Whatever became of the Monday story on the second official who has been illegally parking in handicap spaces? Was looking forward to seeing that one.

I am a solid Republican. If there is no GOP primary, I always vote in the Democrat primary for the weakest general election candidate. All of my GOP friends do this too. What is the problem with that? Lying about it is a problem; it would seem that Mr. Knox was at least honest. Also, I live in jackson, and often the only race is the Democrat primary, such as the mayors races the last two or three times.

Reeves? Lt. Gov? REALLY?

Well, he's not too bright.
He's not too sharp.
He's quite a tool.

Well, I guess he is qualified after all...

Doesn't say much for the Donkeycrats. Dude got elected statewide TWICE.

Tate Reeves is the most well educated Treasurer this state has ever had. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. It is damned difficult to pass those exams and takes years to study for them.

Anonymous said...

I know Austin Barbour and if he decided to run for Weill's Jackson City Coucil seat, he would be considered the favorite b/c he knows how to raise tons of money, campaign, and organize…and that usually spells victory for a candidate.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if it is Charles Barbour rather than Austin that is thinking about running.

Anonymous said...

If Barbour is running it ain't because he can do one fucking thing to help Ward 1. It will ONLY be as a resume builder to springboard somewhere else though no one so far has shown the ability to bounce out of Ward 1 to something bigger and better beyond faking a 'near stroke'.

elexse3:21 Does anyone take you serious?
REALLY??
Childish attacks usually say more about the messenger than the message.
And 4:44 don't waste your time with 3:21. I have tried to present the facts. She is not interested.
Sounds like my junior high grand-daughter when she is mad at her friends.

Anonymous said...

IF you look at Tate's event host list(Porter Event), you will see two of Rankin Co Senators are not on it?

Anonymous said...

Perhaps Rosemary Barbour will run.

Anonymous said...

where have you seen Tate's event host list? where can I get a copy?

One thing about it, Mississippi will continue to run last. Sounds like the punch bowl is just going to be re-filled with the same punch, and the people will continue to drink the kool-aid.

Anonymous said...

So now we wnat to beat up republicans for voting in Democratic primaries. Lets see the majority of Mississippi has one republican if any at all canidates running in a local primary, so when a republican votes democratic we beat them up instead of being glad that they voted. In the days of 50% and less turnouts we should be praising them for voting.

Kingfish said...

The point is is what a Congressional primary. On the Republican side there were Ross, Landrum, Harper, and Shaft. No local elections involved. The question is why was he supporting Democrats in such an election other than the fact Gill was once head of the municipal association.

Then name your choice for the job.

Anonymous said...

What are Lee Yancey's qualifications for Treasurer? Does he have a current job other than being a legislator?

Anonymous said...

Since you are too lazy.

Anonymous said...

Russ Latino is one to watch. Republican's like him, Libertarians like him and even some Democrats like him. Currently checking out others. I wonder if the Fitch lady voted in Democratic Primaries in the past? I think Lee Yancey will do okay in Rankin County but will not be able to pull it off in all counties. Tate Reeves got over 80% in a few counties. I think he should stay in Senate one more term.

Kingfish said...

He is?

Just one problem, the ones that know him are few in number.

Anonymous said...

Davenport is sure trying to change that Kingfish. He's doing everything possible to get Latino's voice heard and name mentioned. At this point the only slot at the Supertalker that Latino hasn't guest-hosted is the Garden Mama's.

Anonymous said...

Garden Mama is hot.

Anonymous said...

Right. If you are limp.

Anonymous said...

g. mama is fat.

Anonymous said...

Fat is good. Ask Kenny.

I got a letter from Delbert in the mail over the weekend, asking for money and talking about all the various things he has accomplished for the state of Mississippi. If he runs for any other office, I will support whomever is running against him. I can't stand him.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.

There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
