Unbelieveable.

Karen "Steinbrenner" Irby fired William Bell and rehired Joe Holloman. I kid you not.

Stranger things have happened.....

My guess is that Karen is an impatient person, and when she didn't get the quick results she expected she threw Bell over and went back to the familiar. No doubt she's going nuts in the pokey and wants some movement PDQ. I think she's going to be disappointed in that hope.

Anonymous said...

Is Holloman supposed to sue Bell now because he didn't sue Holloman fast enough? Are these guys smart enough to get paid cash in advance from this flake? ;-)

Un. Believable! No words.

Not too many things surprise me anymore, but this shocked the hell out of me.

At this point, you think she might try, "by reason of insanity...."

Told you she was nuts. At this point, don't believe anything that she claims. Nothing. She is making Judge Green absolutely credible in her read of the situation.

Just great! All of you perfect people have been thrown yet another morsel to whet your pathetic appetite for whatever gnaws at your vengeful brain.

Karen Irby is in prison, isn't that enough for you? Apparently, some of you delight in the fact that she is likely suffering in circumstances that few of you could endure. Where is your sense of mercy?

Who knows what any of us would do under the same circumstances. I'm sure she is confused and desperate as to how to approach any possibility for a shorter sentence. She certainly doesn't have the strong shoulders of a spouse to see her through this. She has no one to rely on but herself, it seems.

I do not know Karen or Stuart Irby. I am just an observer like many of you and I am sickened for all involved in this tragedy. She has been sentenced and is now serving that sentence. What more do you want? Her death?

Anonymous said...

I can't believe he took her back. They both made some disparaging remarks against each other. It has to be for the money.

She has just forfeited her argument of incompetent council. Everything now hinges on the appeals court overturning Judge Green for bias.

Karen would be well advised at this point to take whatever money she can get in the inevitable divorce and set it aside for when she gets out in 15 years.

The Irby saga continues. Awaitiing the next development and the next and next and next.

Re: 8:40

Like you I am merely an observer in all of this. But this is perhaps the most inane legal move that I have ever seen. Would it make you feel better if we all held hands and sang Kumbaya? But I have to warn you, doing so will not make me any more warm and fuzzy towards either of the Irbys.

Anonymous said...

8:40 PM While you are certainly welcome to read our interest. I think you will find we have followed this story from the beginning. And, while many of us shared in the tragedy of it all, there was compassion. At this point, she is just nuts. Pure and simple. It also confirms a lot of observations. So while you are certainly welcome to read our interest in the story, you are no better than any here, you have kept the conversation going, praise yourself.

Anonymous said...

8:52, as inane as it may seem to you, it seems to me that she is certainly desperate and grasping at this point. Would you not exhaust every possibility to lessen a tortuous situation in which you might find yourself?
Perhaps when there are no avenues left she will be able to resign herself to the many years ahead that she will be living this nightmare in prison.
No, singing Kumbaya is rather pointless and stupid whenever it is sung.
No one is asking you to feel warm and fuzzy towards the Irbys. You obviously have personal issues regarding them. That's OK, too, but it is your problem. I hope it doesn't weigh too heavily on you...

Anonymous said...

8:40...repeat after me...Pogue-Dedousis.

Anonymous said...

9:04, I never claimed to be better than any here. I think the conversation will keep going despite my participation, but would you not agree that I, too, have a right to my opinion whether you agree or not?
As far as calling someone nuts or insane, I'll leave that to the professionals as should you...

Anonymous said...

9:12, I think you are reading a deeper level of judgment towards Karen in the comments here than actually exists. There are those of us who knew of her and her antics long before her last name was Irby. And to this day, we continue to marvel in disbelief.

Anonymous said...

9:22, do you find it necessary to repeat that to yourself in order to remember? I certainly don't...

Anonymous said...

UNBELIEVABLE: you could not make up a story as crazy as this one -- even if you were trying.

Re: 9:12

Never met anyone in a penal institution that wasn't "desperate and grasping" to get out by whatever means. As far as what I would do, I suppose that no one can say with certainty. I do find it interesting that you are only interested in my supposed course AFTER I find myself to be held accountable for my actions. I'm much more of a root cause kind of person and tend to look at the cause of her incarceration rather than the "nightmare" of her "tortuous situation" which is just another way of saying her being held accountable for her actions.

Seems to me that saying that your first lawyer didn't do his job (in a VERY public way) and then rehiring him is just a tad inconsistent and doesn't do a whole lot to make me resolve issues of credibility in her favor, but hey, that's just me. And as noted in a previous post it certainly waives legal arguments that were available to her, regardless of whether they would have been effective in getting her any relief.

Unfortunately you are totally wrong about me having "issues" with the Irbys. They mean no more to me than any other married couple with one party in the pen. I truly don't have a dog in the hunt, so to speak.

But I have to ask, is your description of her "situation" based on personal experience of being incarcerated or some milk of human kindness that you feel for every inmate in every penal institution?

Anonymous said...

What we do know is there is a very desperate woman in prison who has no money of her own to pay a lawyer.

If Karen Irby was told if she wants a lawyer to help her, the lawyer will have to Joe Holloman what other choice would she have? The Irby Machine is still running folks.

Rebekah said...

And this, ladies and gents, is prime example of why you shouldn't marry for money. Money might have given her a big house and fancy cars, but it didn't save her after she killed 2 innocent people. After all of this, she has lost all sympathy. Truly ridiculous. Serve the time and take this time to reflect on your pitiful life as a wannabe socialite and a shitty mother.

re: your 1st paragraph, I thought we were addressing her present situation.

re: 2nd paragraph, her lawyer reverse move does seem rather inconsistent with the reasons for the switch in the first place. Perhaps her new/old lawyer will provide us with info regarding this.

re: 4th paragraph, I have no personal experience with prison.

As far as every inmate in prison, I think MANY of them should have been executed long ago, but then I don't make the laws...

Re:9:29(2)

Perhaps you are correct. I tend to do that sometimes. Printed words lack all the other cues of communication to color communications.

Re: 9:41

Sure sounds like you are again trying to make KI a victim here. As I have followed the story, KI "FIRED" Bell. If the post here said that Bell quit in the middle of the contest so to speak I must have missed it. So at the risk of becoming stuck on the flypaper so to speak, if KI had a lawyer (Bell) and he didn't quit, who pray tell would have been telling her that if she had a lawyer it would have to be JH? Perhaps that machine is a real ass tickler...... Or did I miss the part about the machine firing Bell?

Holy crap! Six stories? I think of Eric Clapton and think, what if?

KF, I'm honestly confused on this one. If you've dissed your previous lawyer thru lawyer #2, and you wanted a new lawyer, wouldn't it have been better to go to lawyer #3, and not return to lawyer #1, who you dissed in court documents?

Not trying to be funny, and not getting into the whole Irby yea/nay thing. Maybe I'm just not getting it. Is there some type of legal thinking/planning about doing something like this?

Kingfish said...

Why do you think I included the video? You did notice the voice-over, right?

I was going to comment but after reading all this, whats the point.

Can I say....no CREDIBILITY left with K Irby. Can anyone say CRAZY AND IMPULSIVE. So, who is going to believe a word she says. I don't believe that S Irby was hitting her in the car. She will lie to benefit herself. She needs accept her punishment and stop using our tax dollars by filing these ridiculous motions. I know her attorneys would never tell her that though.

Anonymous said...

Joe Holloman = Tom Hagen

Anonymous said...

Very interesting. Karen managed to get the victims' families to believe her story that Stuart attacked her in the car, AND she got an attorney, William Bell, who seemed to actually be working hard to represent her interests against what 9:41 PM called the "Irby Machine" (Stuart and his interests).

So why is Karen now hiring Joe Holloman back, the very guy she had recently accused of not adequately representing her interests? Does Karen now believe that William Bell has not truly been wanting to help her? Or has the "Irby Machine" somehow managed to convince Karen that THEY will actually help her now (at least more than Bell could) if she will stop accusing Holloman et al of being more interested in helping Stuart than in helping her?

Does Karen really believe that the "Irby Machine" will actually help her now? Is she being threatened? What's going on?

Anonymous said...

6:33 Your questions are on target. Many of us are trying to make sense of this surprise move.

Either someone convinced Karen Irby OR she convinced herself that Bell could not deliver.

Speculation is easy, but it provides no real answers. PERHAPS one day soon we will be provided with a bit of insight as to what/who motivated her to make this change.

I know many will attribute it to this OR that, but we really have no idea...

"She has been sold out again... It appears SI has threatened her with their sweet baby boy---i.e., she'll never see their son again (for the next 18 years she spends in prison), unless she goes with the program. No more talk of Stuart beating her and she must vindicate Joe by re-hiring him, who SI paid to defend Karen while keeping Stuart in the clear-(I am sorry, there are ethics opinions close to on-point)--paying him half a million to keep his ass outtaa trouble. Karen is outmanned, outmoneyed and completely helpless and hopeless at this point. I would be willing to bet Karen firing Bell was the result of threats, infra, sham/blackmail with the empty promise SI won't divorce her if she goes along with the machine that clearly never considered her interst, best or otherwise. I hope no one ever loves me like SI---never showed up in court (that chicken shit ass) to stand behind that bogus letter he sent Judge Green. If you loved your wife so much, where was your ASS??? I hope one day he has to stand before Judge Green and get what he has coming to him."

I've heard that the law firm working for the victims' families--the Farese firm--hired a private investigator early on to investigate the wreck. Is it possible the Farese firm and their investigator have obtained some independent evidence to support Karen's claim that Stuart attacked her in the car?

I'm just wondering why the victims' families seemed so ready to believe Karen's account. I know some people would claim the reason is that the victims' families (supposedly) just want to squeeze more money out of Stuart. But are both the Pogue and Dedousis families really like that? Of course, Stuart knew quite well that Karen had been drinking that night and he let her drive the car anyway. So whether or not he attacked her in the car, he clearly has some liability.

The fact that Karen has gone back to Joe Holloman sure makes it look like she is now being threatened in some way. IF she is being threatened, could that now give her more ammunition against Stuart, that is, if she could prove the threats?

Of course, prison is not the safest place for a person to be when one or more people with a lot of money don't want that person to talk.

11:45 and 1:46, you may be on to something. Especially when you take into consideration that Karen contacted WAPT herself to inform the station of switching back to the attorney she said that was working against her best interests. Could this get any more bizarre? How often does an imprisoned inmate personally contact a TV station to inform them that she is using the same attorney she claimed in court records was working against her? What "stuff" is there left to work out?

Per WAPT:
Karen Irby contacted WAPT’s Scott Simmons and said, "Joe Holloman, my old attorney and I are working through 'stuff.’"

If I had very limited phone privileges, I'm pretty sure I'd be using that time to call my children, family and friends, not the media.

Anonymous said...

I believe that the Irby family blackmailed Karen by threatening that neither she nor her family would ever see or speak to her son again if she did not give up her legal fight. They are controlling her by using a child as a pawn in thier continuing game. It is dispicable of them, and they should be ashamed! They have no morals, and are willing to sacrifice the happiness and wellbeing of a child(even one of thier own) to achieve thier goals. I think Karen will do whatever she is told to do under the duress of the Irby sharks in order to protect her babies. She is sacrificing herself to protect them. I pray that she knows what her rights are legally, but I believe that she considers the Irby Machine to be "all powerful." Maybe they are invinceable. I am beginning to think that is the case.

“Who knows what any of us would do under the same circumstances.”

I do my best, and so far have succeeded, to stay as far away as possible from doing things that would place me “under the same circumstances” as Karen Irby. That’s why I don’t drink and drive nor do I do countless other heartless, unthinking, selfish things that would endanger others.

If I want to go out drinking, I walk, cab it or even take the bus. If you have money there are drivers, car services and chauffeurs. There are well over 15 restaurants/bars (bars here have to have a good percentage of food sales to sell alcohol) within a four block radius of where I live in the NE Megalopolis, so I have plenty of great choices.

The one thing this case has shown me is that, even after over 140 years, the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution STILL has not been recognized in Mississippi. And that’s why I got out of Mississippi as soon as a decent opportunity arose.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
